Do you think 9/11 changed everything? |
|
In some industries, like the airlines, it changed most things.
People scoff at the idea and say the Republican party exploits 9/11. I cannot completely disagree with that idea.
Still, we can't deny it, what happened on this day shaped our lives forever.
I'll go drink some coffee now.

1. I think this day is exploited politically |
|
by both sides actually..the right obviously..but the far left of the Democratic party have turned this day into attack Bush! day, something downright callous in my book. Today should be a sincere day of morning and rememberance for lives lost..much like Pearl Harbor Day is.

The world is what it always was... sometimes a really shitty place.
What did change is the American perception of it that we are are somehow magically removed from this political/terrorist violence just because we live here. It's a myth we managed to tell ourselves successfully throughout the 20th Century. Pearl Harbor, terrible though it was, didn't happen on the mainland and it is a military target.
Having said that, it is a traumatizing thing to realize that we too are vulnerable ... just like the rest of the world.

Everyone, everywhere, can end up vulnerable to violence. It amazes me, in news stories, how people say "it never happens in this neighborhood..."

7. Gave Bush and republicans excuses they wanted |
|
to curb freedom in the US via Patriot Act and to be aggressive assholes in the world. They have plunged us into huge debt and still complain about "tax and spend" Democrats.
Finally, I heard that they are "planning" to check all incoming air cargo for radiation - only took 7 years to "plan" this.
We need to win this election.

8. It didn't change everything....but some things |
|
It gave us a greater feeling of vulnerability, I think (which has been shamelessly exploited by the Bush junta and his minions). It changed the airline industry in a lot of ways.
It certainly gave the right a whole new weapon - fear. They sure know how to use it!

One New Yorker I talked with yesterday, at work, had an entirely different perspective.
But they could have been the minority, of course.
Anyway, I hope it's an uneventful day - everywhere across our country - today.

|
at first there were some big changes. ID's to enter buildings (though keep in mind terrorist didnt really enter the world trade center the usual way), back pack checks in subways etc
now, its all gone back
and we voted for kerry and will vote for obama because we (atleast 87% of us) know that 9/11 isnt what really changed the world

I often wonder if outsourcing is not sharply increasing anti-American sentiment around the world.
Think about it? The customer service agent, in India (or wherever) answers the phone and the first thing out of the American's mouth, in response to them, is, "I want to talk to someone who can speak ENGLISH!" Just because the customer service rep has an accent. They (aka The Ugly Americans) don't even give the person a chance. How would you feel? Sorry, I know this is somewhat off-topic... just an idea I've been tossing around for awhile.

In the sense that the terrorists did in fact win.
And the response to it was totally wrong. EVERYTHING about the response was wrong, including Afghanistan. This bullshit war on terror is wrong and will ultimately fail because we are only creating MORE terrorists.
And I am also sickened by the way we have allowed our rights to be taken from us.

I saw an ABC news report, just last night, about "the war" in Afghanistan. And I put that in quotation marks because it really isn't a "real war" in a way... without enough troops to make a significant difference. What a quagmire our country has created. (sigh)

The 9/11 report was a joke
But there are just as many holes in Loose Change
Which holes are real holes and which ones are disinformation holes, we will never know
Our grandkids might know.
Hell, the Germans who freaked out over the Reichstag Fire had no idea it was the NAZI's who set it until after the war.

Throw those rat bastards into the pits of hell along with the hijackers of 9/11 planes.
We might have responded to 9/11 in a rational manner, but instead we threw more innocent people and our civil liberties onto the pyre.
