The cats have reached something of a detente...for now
There are occasional flare-ups of tension, but at the moment they are...chilling. She's washing and he's kinda laying a few feet away, half-asleep. How long it lasts, I have no idea. There was a scuffle a bit ago, but it has passed. He doesn't like being put on timeout for being a wanker to her. She's so chill, but she will fuck his shit up if he gets in her face like that.

Ah, the furbabies. What fun.

:hi:

1. Maybe they need a common enemy that will force them to bond with each other?
Have you considered getting a dog?

2. Their common enemy is the laser pointer
:D

She has this weird constantly swishing tail, whether she's happy or not, and it makes him crazy, so he always swats it. She doesn't appreciate that. :)

3. Actually the fact that there isn't near constant hissing and spitting
is a good sign....

5. There's only been one or two very minor hissing moments
Just a bunch of swatting and stalking, when they're not being chill. But yesterday and today, it's been generally chill. A lot of play fighting. No claws really, just being...well, cats. :)

6. Cats figure it out on their own.
In a few weeks they'll be best friends.

8. That's what my Vet said
He said that the recommended weeks-long process is nice in theory, but with two "normal" cats, it's best to just let them figure it out with a minimum of interference, unless they get to the point of injuring each other, of course.

10. I had to keep Trin away from Dora and Piglet
because she would charge hissing and swatting across the room if she even saw them, and I was seriously worried that she would hurt or even kill them. They're all buddies now, she just wasn't used to other cats and had absolutely no patience for kittens being kittens.

11. While you're away, they're probably bathing each other, and curling up together for naps.
I've seen it happen that when they realize that people are watching, they return to a show of fighting.

12. It took five years for my five-year-old and my 24-year-old
to quit being nasty to each other. Daniel would growl at Barney and Barney would egg her on by pawing and chasing her.

Now they tolerate each other enough to share a bowl of catfood in the morning. Thank GOD!! I hate it when my animals don't get along with each other.

13. I had to keep two orange cats separated for three years.
The younger one would not accept the newer, older one. Tried to kill him many a time. I had to keep them separated in our two-bedroom apartment. It was a real drag. One day it was just spontaneously resolved. I don't know why.

The same younger cat subsequently went with us to a household with four existing cats. Same drama. Had to keep him away from the others.

We solved that problem when we moved to a new house. I realized that territorial issues would not exist in a space that was new to all.

Everything's fine, now.
