But this is kind of the Angels territory, so I am doubtful that they would cancel anything for a Twins game.

but every March, this is all I hope for — a good pennant race. Winning the pennant is actually slightly secondary to that late-September excitement.
O' course, it's even better if you get to play in October. :)

59. Eh, I don't hate 'em anymore |

For a long time, they were the only baseball I could listen to, after the Dodgers dumped their 50,000-watt station for a 5,000-watt station — before Gameday Audio and XM, o' course. So I got pretty familiar with 'em, and the old hate just faded away.
I still hate Dave Kingman and Dick Dietz, though. x(

27. Oh, and back to Hawk Harrelson |
|
He is one of the TV guys for the White Sox, he is really obnoxious and "put it on the boooooaaarrrrrdddd" is his homerun call.
Both DJ (the other White Sox TV announcer) and Hawk are known to whine the whole game through if the game is not going the White Sox's way. To the point of denigrating the other team playing. Kind of like Ozzie Guillen.

Rick Monday's one exception I can think of off the top o' my head. He and Charlie Steiner work really well together. They're even funny when the game's loose; Monday has a really good sense o' snarky humor.
Oh — Ray Fosse's pretty good, too.

56. Two out, Willie Mays Hayes on second |
|
Jake Taylor, the old catcher with bad knees, gets it in his head he can bunt Hayes in if he suckers the defense with the old Babe Ruth "pointing" bit. So he signals the bench, and Lou Brown goes, "That's a helluvan idea, Ricky" and gives the bunt sign to the coaches.
Taylor points to the seats, Duke Temple (played by former Dodgers catcher Steve Yeager) knocks him down, Taylor gets up and points again, then drops the bunt. He beats it by half a step (yeah, the old catcher with bad knees legs out a bunt), and while Haywood, the Yankees' first baseman (played by Cy Young winner Pete Vukovich), is arguing the call with the ball still in play and a runner moving, Hayes turns third and scores.
Yeah. That could happen.

He's much better on Giants games than on ESPN because he's unconstrained. He's made me laugh out loud several times, and I love his impersonations of Scully and the Phillies' dude. The Giants' entire crew — Miller, Mike Krukow, Duane Kuiper (I forgot about them — two ex-players who are just excellent) and Dave Flemming — are the best in baseball, for my money.
Weird, though — I've been listening to Vinny for more than 40 years, and it's getting old. Guess it's the sound of one voice talking constantly, but it's somewhat of a relief in the fourth when Steiner and Monday take over on radio. Vinny's the best there ever was, but maybe I've had enough of him.
Also, he's a Republican.

What a way to finish a series. The Twins did it every way, blowout in the first game, a tight tense second game and a classic, against-all-odds comeback to complete the sweep. That was wonderful baseball!
