I applied for a new job on Friday

Things aren't looking so great at my current employer. They just lost a lot of business and some people are going to get laid off. Currently, I haul auto parts. I thought it was safe because the manufacturer that we haul for makes a lot of fuel efficient cars. But it is turning out not to be as safe as I thought.

The job that I applied for is for hauling a food grade tanker. I'm thinking I might be safe there. Everybody has got to eat, right? They advertised for the job for a week and the person I talked to about the job says that they will start calling in people for interviews this coming week. I'm long on truck driving experience (12 years), but short on experience with hauling tankers. I think I'd probably pick up on it pretty quick, though.

If the pay and benefits are alright it could be a really good deal. I already know that it is first shift and that would be a great improvement over what I currently do. Wish me luck.

Yes, first shift generally starts at 7am and ends at 3pm for an 8 hour work day. I would probably have to work some overtime, but it won't be anything like the 60 hours I work now. I just need the pay to be decent and to have some good health insurance.
