Who has seen La Vie en Rose? |
|
The life story of Edith Piaf.
That's what I have to watch tonight. I've got my movie and some scotch.

Marion Cotillard channels Piaf perfectly. Really great. :)

2. She had such a hard childhood. I could have used some scotch as I watched it. |

but it was about a little cross-dressing boy. Must be something different. In any case that was a good movie too! :D

9. Dreadful movie, pathetic performance... |
|
...saw it twice, and it gets worse with age, a hammy, overwrought and totally unbelievable performance. One of the biggest Oscar jokes.

10. Seen it twice - loved it each time |
|
First time on a flight to France and then on DVD here.
It skips some of her life, missing out a little portion of history called WW2, but despite that, it's marvelous.
Her portrayal of Piaf is spot on, especially if you know anything at all about her and the performances of the music are definitely some of the high points of the film.
It's a three or four tissue movie.

I was especially interested in how she coped during the war, since most of her audience was European. Or was she over here by that time mostly?
I feel the same way listening to her that I do looking at Freida Kahlo's paintings. Very raw inside.
