33. Which decade does that represent?
Was it a description of the 1980s or a prophecy of the 1990s?

34. Early 90s, man.
That's when the public finally got away from the over-the-top decadence of the 80s.

6. Hopefully not obscure, but I'm Irish, and my son loved this silly song too.
The Irish Rovers - The Unicorn Song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EPsuOEH1fY

A long time ago, when the Earth was green
There was more kinds of animals than you've ever seen
They'd run around free while the Earth was being born
And the loveliest of all was the unicorn

There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn

The Lord seen some sinning and it gave Him pain
And He says, "Stand back, I'm going to make it rain"
He says, "Hey Noah, I'll tell you what to do
Build me a floating zoo,
and take some of those...

Green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
Don't you forget My unicorns

Old Noah was there to answer the call
He finished up making the ark just as the rain started to fall
He marched the animals two by two
And he called out as they came through
Hey Lord,

I've got green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but Lord, I'm so forlorn
I just can't find no unicorns"

And Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them unicorns were hiding, playing silly games
Kicking and splashing while the rain was falling
Oh, them silly unicorns

There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Noah cried, "Close the door because the rain is falling
And we just can't wait for no unicorns"

The ark started moving, it drifted with the tide
The unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away
That's why you never see unicorns to this very day

You'll see green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
You're never gonna see no unicorns

19. ROTFLOL! You are so polite!

Okay, I know I am old fashioned and prefer the oldies but goodies. You are probably so much younger that you've never even heard of the groups and songs I consider my favorites. That's okay. I am the exception, rather than the rule these days.

I honestly cannot stand that loud screaming metal band crap, or the noisy rap shit that the younger crowd seems to like. That is the primary reason I only go to the ladies bar once a week, on Sunday night. Because I can actually engage in a conversation without having to scream and shout over the noise, or my eardrums blasted to shit and bleeding.

Yeah, I'm an old fart, and rather "old fashioned." I don't have a problem with that!

22. I don't recall "Clancy Brothers." If you could provide a song, I might recall them.
My mother saturated us with Elvis Presley. She had every single album he ever produced. And made us watch every movie he did.

I'm not much of a sport for the 50's and 60's. I was not born yet for part of that, and too young to appreciate the rest of it.

24. The Clancy Brothers were an Irish Folk Group
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Clancy_Brothers
Great Folk Song that they sing:

Finnegan's Wake
Tim Finnegan lived in Walkin Street, a gentle Irishman mighty odd
He had a brogue both rich and sweet, an' to rise in the world he carried a hod
You see he'd a sort of a tipplers way but the love for the liquor poor Tim was born
To help him on his way each day, he'd a drop of the craythur every morn

Whack fol the dah now dance to yer partner around the flure yer trotters shake
Wasn't it the truth I told you? Lots of fun at Finnegan's Wake

One morning Tim got rather full, his head felt heavy which made him shake
Fell from a ladder and he broke his skull, and they carried him home his corpse to wake
Rolled him up in a nice clean sheet, and laid him out upon the bed
A bottle of whiskey at his feet and a barrel of porter at his head

Whack fol the dah now dance to yer partner around the flure yer trotters shake
Wasn't it the truth I told you? Lots of fun at Finnegan's Wake

His friends assembled at the wake, and Mrs Finnegan called for lunch
First she brought in tay and cake, then pipes, tobacco and whiskey punch
Biddy O'Brien began to cry, "Such a nice clean corpse, did you ever see,
Tim avourneen, why did you die?", "Will ye hould your gob?" said Paddy McGee

Whack fol the dah now dance to yer partner around the flure yer trotters shake
Wasn't it the truth I told you? Lots of fun at Finnegan's Wake

Then Maggie O'Connor took up the job, "Biddy" says she "you're wrong, I'm sure"
Biddy gave her a belt in the gob and left her sprawling on the floor
Then the war did soon engage, t'was woman to woman and man to man
Shillelagh law was all the rage and a row and a ruction soon began

Whack fol the dah now dance to yer partner around the flure yer trotters shake
Wasn't it the truth I told you? Lots of fun at Finnegan's Wake

Mickey Maloney ducked his head when a bucket of whiskey flew at him
It missed, and falling on the bed, the liquor scattered over Tim
Bedad he revives, see how he rises, Timothy rising from the bed
Saying "Whittle your whiskey around like blazes, t'underin' Jaysus, do ye think I'm dead?"

Whack fol the dah now dance to yer partner around the flure yer trotters shake
Wasn't it the truth I told you? Lots of fun at Finnegan's Wake

Whack fol the dah now dance to yer partner around the flure yer trotters shake
Wasn't it the truth I told you? Lots of fun at Finnegan's Wake

25. Irish Republican war songs.
I was made to memorize them as soon as I could speak, English and Gaeilge both.

Here's a nice Gaeilge one, sort of a National Anthem:

And a nice English one:

Some of the nationalistic songs were actually kind of fun, like "God Bless England," which was very ironic.

Let's Groove - Earth wind and fire

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XOY7lsBVpo

Let this groove, get you to move,
it's alright, alright
let this groove, set in your shoes,
stand up, alright

Gonna tell you what you can do,
with my love, alright
Let you know girl you're looking good
you're out of sight and alright

Move yourself and glide like a 747
loos yourself in the sky among the clouds in the heavens

Let this groove, light up your fuse, alright
Let this groove, set in your shoes

stand up, alright
Let me tell you what you can do
with my love, alright

Gotta let you know girl you're looking good
you're out of sight, you're alright

Tell the DJ to play your favorite tune
then you know it's okay
What you found is happiness, now

Let this groove, get you to move, alright
Let this groove set in your shoes
stand up, alright

You will find peace of mind on the floor
Take a little time, come and see, you and me
make a little sign, I'll be there after a while
if you want my love

We can boogie on down, down, down, down
Let's groove tonight
share the spice of life
baby slice it right
we're gonna groove tonight

ETA I found the original music video:

I love that it's set in D.C., with the opening scene right in front of The White House. How fitting. Obama needs to use this song on at his inauguration!

18. 1950's: Jerry Lee Lewis...Great Balls of Fire

That song, and his performance, demonstrated how the youth of the fifties were beginning to break away from the cookie cutter mold of the previous generation. The pent up energy and raw emotion struck a huge nerve with teenagers.

Freddy Cannon - Where The Action Is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9gg2gX-ZrA

Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
It's so neat to meet your baby where the action is

In every little town 'cross the USA
There's a spot where the people can go everyday
Just leave your problems and a-get away
Come on down and listen to the guitars play
Whoo! Dance, dance, dance, when you hear that beat
Whoo! Dance, dance, dance, get up off of your seat
Whoo! Dance, dance, dance, let your backbone slip
Let's go to the place on the Sunset Strip

Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
It's so neat to meet your baby where the action is

If all day long you been wanting to dance
Well, all night long you gonna have your chance
So don't sit at home just a-twiddling your thumbs
You can't resist the sound of the driving drums
Whoo! Dance, dance, dance, when you hear that beat
Whoo! Dance, dance, dance, get up off of your seat
Whoo! Dance, dance, dance, let your backbone slip
Lets go to the place on the Sunset Strip

Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
It's so neat to meet your baby where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is, whoo
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is
It's so neat to meet your baby where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is, whoo
Oh baby come on, let me take you where the action is
Oh baby come on, let me take you where the action is
It's so neat to meet your baby where the action is
Oh baby, come on, let me take you where the action is, whoo
