great pic! (that and the Godzilla film with the Mothra Sisters - godzilla vs mothra,) I think. Kind of sad that there aren't fun, cheesy, but sometimes thoughtful films like that anymore.

I should look around to see if I can find that film somewhere.

49. It's available on DVD, but it's just the dubbed version.
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 11:10 PM by Forkboy
And it's actually a more recent dubbing than when it was first released in '69. Toho used to make their own "international" dub, and that's the one they use here. The version we grew up with was an American dub by the American International Pictures company.

My copy came with a CD of the Soundtrack, which is spiffy. :)

It still makes me laugh that those films were the ones we watched as kids IN my Catholic School when there was a movie day.

I was quite small (five or so), but I remember the scenes of the bloody, harpooned whales, and Orson Welles as the pastor in the prow-shaped alter, giving that unforgettable sermon on the eve of the whalers shipping out.

Any of the rest of you old-timers starting to remember things from your childhood with absolute clarity, for the first time in decades? I'm starting to recall things from when I was three years old---but I can't remember what I had for supper two nights ago. My late father told me that this would happen....:)

35. It was probably a Disney flick, maybe Cinderella...
but I got all kinds of movie memories -

I remember I lost my little garnet birthstone ring in the show when we went to see "Swiss Family Robinson." Boy, were my folks tic'd...Dad made a special trip to see if they had swept it up but it was gone, gone, gone. They told me I could not wear a ring again until I learned to keep it on my finger and stop playing with it, and they meant it. Didn't have another ring until I was a pre-teen.

I went downtown all by myself, by bus and train, for the first time to see "Lawrence of Arabia." Anxiety was running high that day...did I want to see it bad enough to go it alone? Would I get on the right bus and get off at all the right stops. Very scary

One night some co-ed friends and I went to a show without telling the folks. When I got up to go to the refreshment area, there they were three rows behind us - think that was "The Great Race." Punishment was meted out promptly - I had to visit the minister of my friend's church and explain why we were out with boys without telling our parents.

Walked out of a show, on a date, for the first and only time, "Barbarella."

I've seen "Funeral in Berlin" three times now and still can't figure it out nor do I ever plan on watching it again. Dark, boring, confusion.

As a kid, I mainly went to the drive-in to see the PG movies my folks picked. I do remember seeing "Sink the Bismark" and probably some John Wayne stuff. They still had cartoons and double-features. The speaker always fell off the window at least once, and the mosquitos would try to eat you alive. A few years later, the bug truck would go by and spray toxic fog all around after the warning to roll up the windows and sweat for 15 minutes. It was always a challenge to find a good spot as we rolled up over the elevated rows. I was never, ever allowed to play on the swings, etc. set up front until the shows came on. We took pillows and blankets and our own popcorn and treats in a cooler. Then we got to listen to Dad cuss about the traffic on the way out.

46. The first Star Wars movie.
I think I was too young to have been very impressed. (I'd like to recall having a crush on Han Solo, but I think that's revisionism on my part.) I remember a little better when I saw "Grease." I begged to get and then probably played and sang along with the soundtack album (on my record player! that I formerly played Sesame Street albums on! `70`s!) like every day for months. I performed "You're The One That I Want" standing on a rocking chair. I had moves!

(Full and unnecessary disclosure: I did the same thing with the "Xanadu" soundtrack. And "Cher's Greatest Hits." And a few of those K-Tel compilations. "Dream Weaver! I believe you can get me through the niiii-hiiighhht!" Product of an era, I'm afraid.)

60. It was either It Came From Outer Space or Invaders From Mars
They both came out in 1953 and I'm not sure which one I saw first. It Came From Outer Space was in 3-D and everyone in the theater had 3-D glasses. I was about 4 years old and my mother always took me to see scary (scary for that time) movies. Invaders From Mars was the movie where a mother and father visit the site of a UFO crash and come back completely changed, with strange looking cysts on the backs of their necks. It kept me looking at the backs of my parents' necks for days.

70. It was SO long ago that I have fuzzy memories, What I can recall
is that it starred Bing Crosby. Might've been Goin' My Way with Barry Fitzgerald. I CAN remember walking out of the theater and past the screen and wondering where ALL those people I had been seeing had gone.

I also remember Bambi from a little later in that time frame. I found Bambi quite disturbing or traumatic. It was classic Disney, but it did not feed my soul once Bambi's mother or perhaps whole family had been eliminated by hunters...

DRAT!

74. The first one I remember seeing in the theater is "Ghostbusters."
And what a memory it is.

75. "Creature from the Black Lagoon"
It was on a double bill with "Gog". My grandfather took me: fortunately, you didn't need to speak English to follow the plots, since Papa Deda's was pretty limited. The first was a guy in a rubber suit terrorizing a blonde, and the second featured a bunch of robots killing people. They were pretty cool, to a seven-year-old.

My grandfather must have been a blooming saint.
