5. I'm a Sox fan, but not sad. |
|
I just like to see good games. At the end of the night I don't really care who wins.
I mean, it's not like we're talking about something important, like hockey. :P

6. Meh. We were down 3-1 to the Indians last year |
|
I also recall one time when we were down 3-0 to some other team, but came back to win that one too. I don't remember what team that was, but I do distinctly remember they were a bunch of losers.

11. he's batting like .398...he was slacking in Boston with the lowly .347.... |
|
dump him like Babe Ruth.
No more pitches to hit for Big Papi.
Lose 9-1 in your own house to the Rays.
Bwaaaahahaha.

Dodgers lost. How'd the Boston ace do tonight against last years worst team in baseball?

You're going back to last year to bust the Sox chops but think Manny's season started in July. How does your brain keep going after THAT disconnect?
There's more to the Manny saga than just this year. The complaints of him slacking wasn't about HOW he played, it was about WHEN he played. Taking games off due to phantom injuries is no sign of an honorable player and good teammate. Not to mention punching a teammate, pushing a 64 year old man over for not getting him enough game tickets, saying before a series with the Yankees that he wished he played for them...he's just a swell guy that any player would want next to him on the bench. Even Ortiz, his best friend, said he had to go.
Get back to us after 8 years of his childlike attitude, and his shitting on teammates, fans and management when he doesn't get his way (because it's so rough making a 160 million dollars to play a game).

20. I'm not a Dodgers man, or even a Manny fan. I was glad to see him leave the division. |
|
But for Red Sox fans to attempt to justify trading a HOF'er is like...well Babe Ruth.
The guy made those championships possible. His bat protected Ortiz and allowed him to become a feared hitter. Look at him now...and its only the beginning. Sox fans like to cast off old players and make it their fault. Nomar, Pedro, Lowe, heck, even Mo Vaughn. Its always the players fault. It was A-Rods fault that the trade got nixed from the Rangers.
The nice thing is, we will see how it plays out.

22. I honestly defended Manny for years and years here, all the way up until this year. |
|
He's the best hitter in the league (both divisions, imo). But what he did by not playing when he was in a bad mood is just wrong. Forget how the fans and management feel about it. It's wrong to do that your teammates, who have no say in what happened between Manny and the owners. They count on each other, and Manny let them down too many times. And that's my main beef with him. I just can't respect that.
There was no real ill will with Nomar or Lowe (I was bummed to see Lowe go). Nomar was, and still is, an injury waiting to happen. With his huge contract why would anyone blame the team for moving him? Same for Pedro. He's a big time prima donna, but they moved him because of the contract as much as anything. And for every name you mention you leave out one factor...the Sox had different owners and management then. All this happened under Dan Duquette, not Theo Epstein and the new owners (who fired his ass).
Wouldn't it be just as possible to turn your case around and say, "It's always the management's fault"? Seems like that's the argument the players always make. When do they take responsibility for their own actions? Should the Sox have kept him even though he was tearing the clubhouse apart? After he punches a teammate? After he pushes a 64 year old traveling secretary to the ground? How many passes should Manny have been given just because he can hit a ball well?
Like I say, this stuff goes back a lot farther than just this year. I know Dodger fans are thrilled, and I don't blame them, I was too when the Sox got him. But after 8 years of games and a true child like attitude one has to finally say enough is enough. I don't think the Sox management is perfect, by any stretch, but those trashing them over this trade truly don't know the whole story. We Sox fans have seen and heard both sides. And when Bay made his first plate appearance in Fenway he got a standing ovation. It was clear which side the fans believed, because we've seen it with our own eyes for 8 years.

9. You're right. He wasn't worth it. |
|
Bay's numbers sure do suck compared to Manny, no doubt.
(Not including tonight's games)
Games Manny 5 Bay 6
HRs Manny 3 Bay 3
RBIs Manny 7 Bay 9
Avg Manny .444 Bay .440
OBP Manny .565 Bay .517
SLG Manny 1.000 Bay .920
Hits Manny 9 Bay 12
Runs Manny 8 Bay 5
2B Manny 1 Bay 3
BB Manny 7 Bay 5
SO Manny 4 Bay 7
So, we have very comparable playoff numbers, minus the "me first, team second" attitude. Yup, damn good trade indeed.

17. hold on lets update them... |
|
Manny:
G 7 AVG .500 HR 3 2B 2 RBI 9 R 8 BB 10 OBP .656 SLG 1.000 OPS 1.656
Jason:
G 7 AVG .429 HR 3 2B 3 RBI 9 R 5 BB 5 OBP .515 SLG .857 OPS 1.372
Pretty close.
Now, what is Ortiz doing? Batting .148, no HR, 1 RBI. Without Manny, get used to it.

19. Ortiz is playing with an injured wrist that will probably need surgery after the year. |
|
Every time he swings his wrist makes an audible clicking sound. He wasn't hitting even when Manny was here.
Next?

21. Do you guys watch the games? He is pitched completely different. |
|
He doesn't see any pitches to hit. The wrist may affect his power stroke, if at all, but he is not even making contact with the ball, let alone driving it. He looks like an average hitter...make that below average.
