2. Fox Entertainment sold the Dodgers in 2004
Since then, they've been owned by Massachusetts real estate developer Frank McCourt.

4. Because the Phillies are a better all-around ball club
They aren't much better, but just enough.

I will not be ashamed to lose the pennant to them.

9. I'd probably love the games
But the nastiness of Red Pox "Nation" would keep me away from the Lounge. :eyes:

14. I'm not gonna generalize it
any more than I'd say all Yankees fans are assburgers. Bigwillq, for one, is a Yankees fan who's a damned good baseball fan and doesn't sling shit, and I know there've gotta be others. But the typical Yankees fan I've encountered is an arrogant baseball elitist with a strong sense of entitlement.

Particularly since their second world championship, I've encountered a lot of Red Sox fans who've become the same way. Maybe winning does something to some people, I dunno. But, like I said, I know it isn't all of 'em, but the ones who are that way don't do their club's PR any good. I don't know if they realize that, or care about it.

15. Well, there's certainly some truth to what you say, but I'll posit a different angle.
People hate teams that win, and by extension their fans, unless it's their team that's winning. Why do you think us Boston fans hate both the Yankees and Montreal Canadiens? Because they won all the time (often at our expense). And that's why the only people who hate the Cubs are Cubs fans. :D

Look at some great teams from each sport over the years. The Patriots - hated. The Red Sox and Yankees (and Dodgers for a stretch in the 80's) - hated. The Red Wings and Canadiens - hated. The Celtics and Lakers - hated. What do all those teams have in common? They all win, and are pretty much hated by all but their own fans (for the most part, anyways).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing for a second that fans like you describe don't exist. I cringe at some of the Sox and Patriots fans I've seen. But every team has fans like that, in every sport. When their teams win they are no different at all. People don't like to admit it, but jealousy does play a factor in all this. As a hockey fan, I was jealous of Montreal from the time I was 5 until I was almost 20.

Factor in also that the Sox are hugely popular country-wide, and you have a much greater chance of seeing an obnoxious Sox fan then you do an obnoxious Seattle Mariners fan, for instance.

And then there are Jets fans, who are just obnoxious for no good reason at all. :)

16. You make good points
I'm gonna combine your main one with my own, because it's something I should've thought of earlier: Winners tend to attract more hate because winning lends itself to fan arrogance. The reason the Mariners (and Pirates and Nationals and Royals and Orioles et al) aren't universally despised is they haven't won much of anything in awhile, so their fans haven't had many real chances to play "FACE" — especially in the post-season, when 10 times as many people are paying attention and passions run higher.

I'm sure there're many people who hate ball clubs simply because they win — particularly fans of those clubs' rivals — and still others who hate other clubs because they buy winners, like the Yankees, Red Sox... and Dodgers. But I think even more react to the way other fans act, and assholery is more likely to come from fans of winners.

(For the record, I'm sure there're plenty of asshole Dodgers fans. I've just never met any — but then, I don't live anywhere near LA; indeed, I live in Giants country, where to be an asshole Dodgers fan is to invite bodily harm.)

17. Because the Phillies have a ton of heart.
And the Dodgers can't match it. We're not going to be denied. Fucking Manny is off the charts good though, I would walk him every time he came to bat no matter the situation. He's on a Hall of Fame roll.
