Are you guys getting all these "Italian Heritage--Live it, Love it, Celebrate it" commercials on CNN
or is it a local thing?

I'm beginning to wonder why Italian Americans are so insecure. I feel kind of bad for them.

Critters
The mongrel American heritage--livin' it, lovin' it, celebratin' it!

1. I haven't been seeing them on CNN in NY
 Do the ads say who is behind them?

4. Yeah. The National Italian American Foundation. niaf.org
It's like EVERY commercial, all through the debate.

So, maybe it's only metro-Chicago Italian Americans who need affirming.

They've had all kinds of Italian Americans--Martin Scorsese, Eva Longoria, Tony Benett, others talking about how proud they are to be Italian American. Interesting, but I got the point after the first commercial.

7. Eva Longoria?
That's so weird. I don't think she's Italian-American.

8. Yeah, that's not who I meant. After a while, I was only half-paying attention.
I think it was Lorraine Bracco.

My eyes were glazing over after a while.

3. You suppose it's a Columbus day thing? I haven't seen anything here
but I usually fast forward through commercials on the Tivo

6. That might be. Hadn't thought of it.
Too busy celebratin' my kraut heritage, sippin' a beer.

And celebratin' diversity by playin' Mah Jong. Thank you, Chinese Americans! :hi:

9. No offense intended, philboy!
My ancestors haven't discovered anything. Heck, some of my direct ancestors intended to go to Canada and ended up in New York. If they had been looking for a short route to the Spice Islands, they'd still be looking! :hi:

10. Insecure?
I know it usually escapes people's notice because the point of the holiday is obscured by the very real tragedy of how Europe crushed the indigenous population, but the Italian version of St Paddy's Day was just celebrated this week.

11. It's for Columbus day. FWIW, I'm secure enough in my Italian heritage to point out that Columbus was
just about the last person in that heritage that I'd want to associate with myself, my family or my culture.
