Yaaay! One of my pix won in a local nature photography contest!
Edited on Thu Oct-23-08 03:17 PM by Dangerously Amused
This one:

My prize is a lovely fleece jacket. :7 Go me!

Props to lizziegrace for pointing out the contest to me.

ETA: Does anybody know what kind of a tree that is? A pine or a fir or something else? I want to give it a title that includes the type of tree, but Nature Girl here doesn't have a clue. :eyes:

2. Thanks.

It's funny but what I saw looks nothing like what the camera recorded; the thick blanket of fog and heavy morning dew was doing all kinds of weird reflective stuff to the sunlight. But I thought the pic turned out cool anyway.

6. LIES!!!11!

No, I probably oversharpened it though. I oversharpen everything. It's an uncontrollable urge I have as a result of my frustration in learning depth of field and the zone system on a Pentax K1000 like 100 years ago. With Attila the Hun as my photog prof. :eyes:

10. Yeah!

I couldn't use the one with the kid on the beach because I didn't have a model release. In retrospect I had another of him and that sweet little "Butt Angels" girl where they weren't identifiable, I could have submitted that I guess. Oh well. We will have to go and take more pix for next year's contest! :7

I actually went that morning because I wanted to get the sunrise at a certain location. Well, the sunrise that morning was spectacularly... unimpressive. So I was disappointed, but then I saw this field on the way home, and the fog was still pretty thick with the sun at a good angle so I thought okay, let's just see what's out there before the fog dissipates.

Like I said upthread, what I saw is very different from what the camera recorded. So I have to give the camera the photo credit, I guess. :7

I think it's a Douglas Fir. They are all over the place here where I live.

Christmas tree, lol!

:spank:

I tried to research the difference between the pine and the fir needles, but I still couldn't figure it out. :dunce:

It may be difficult too because the tree is young, there seems to be a difference in the way the younger trees display needle clusters/clumps/whatever those things are. Oh well, someone here will know for sure.

Interesting at so many levels!

It's a Pine, not a Fir, but I couldn't say what kind. Where was it taken?

When I saw it the rays from the sun were much more pronounced coming through the branches (which looked very awesome), but the surrounding area wasn't all lit up like that, and the background wasn't nearly as dark. It seemed a little less warm, and more ethereal. But whatever, the camera saw it differently. It's all good in my book. :)

How's by you? What's new?

I'm revamping an old script I wrote, particularly because I know a guy who owns a small studio and is looking for scripts.

He's actually my boss' cousin and lives right behind where I work.

I was thinking of writing in my first reply that you should consider taking up something artistic since you have a good eye for color and design. Maybe after school when your time frees up a little.
