Merl Saunders passes on

10/24/08

Merl Saunders died of a systemic infection - essentially, the lingering results of the stroke he experienced six years ago - today, October 24th, at Kaiser Hospital, San Francisco. Our chief said, "Merl was the sun rising over the keyboards every time I looked over at him."

Yup. Fare thee well, Merl. May the four winds blow you safely home.

2. Well, with Jerry, Pig Pen, Keith Godchaux,
Brent Mydland and Vince Welnick in the great beyond..there ought to be one heck of a jam session going on.

I was privileged enough to see Merle Saunders at Mississippi Nights in St Louis while he was touring to support Blues from the Rainforest CD. It was an awesome show.

RIP, Mr Saunders and peaceful journey.
