1. David Live, you fool
David Live has Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing(reprise) and All The Young Dudes, not to mention Changes with the line altered to "and these children that you shit on."

Of course, Stage does have that great version of Warszawa and Breaking Glass, so it's a fine album as well...

2. Keep in mind Stages has Station2Station on it
Something that just works on that album, as well as a totally whacked out "Alabama Song"

It also has the only live version of "Stay" which is also mind boggling on that album.

3. Boy oh boy do I hate "Alabama Song."
When I first heard it, it made me rethink my entire Bowie catalog. I've since come to terms with it by vowing never to hear it again.

But the live version of Station to Station is pretty damn fine.

5. I like it - total atonal/tonal disjointedness
Eno mastered the atonal.

4. "David Live"...I like all of that doctoring on it...
rerecorded vocals, guitars, sax, etc...
That doesn't bother me in the least.
I mean, who in the hell expects "authenticity" from David Bowie?!
"Stage" is pretty cool, though

6. Exactly - he's Bowie, not the Grateful Dead
Grateful Dead were a warts and all band. I like them too.

Bowie was always about sublime perfection, even when the task was to make it not look so...

But as a reworked studio live performance - its a pretty good album.

How is Santa Monica 72?

7. I've never heard a good recording of the Santa Monica 72 show, but the Nassau...
Coliseum show from 77 (I think) is great. It includes great versions of both "Station2Station" and "Stay"
