Poll question: What are you feeling ...
in the final stretch?

I've taken up my old habit of nail biting. Also, I've eaten half the Halloween candy in the house. :-(

Yeah, I'm a little stressed.

You?

1. I'm feeling optimistic...
I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up too high...and since I'm in Colorado and my neighborhood's littered with McCain/Palin signs it's not too hard to manage...but I'm optimistic.

Obviously I can't speak to early voter turnout everywhere but I went today -- stood in line for well over an hour and the whole time I was there, the line never diminished and I didn't notice anyone at all walking away because they didn't want to wait. I've never seen that here. Ever.

When you hear me try to sing "Un bel di vedremo" from Madam Butterfly, you'll know it's over.

I'll probably bust the elastic on my Yoga pants.

7. Fatalistic.
I don't know why...even though I know rationally that we're going to win...I can't seem to get past this intuitive vibe that it's all going to go horribly wrong.

although for me it's probably also the fact that it hasn't stopped raining here for 3 days except the 10 minutes it snowed. Seriously what is that action? It's October still.

It's paranoia. I know it's paranoia...we're going to win.

9. EXHAUSTED
My daughter pointed out last week that we've been working on the Obama campaign for over a year. I've followed every scrap of news, knocked on doors, made phone calls, advised student clubs, stuffed envelopes, did data entry, cleaned up campaign offices...

I'm tired. Really, really tired. Tired deep in my bones. None of the "pros" in my state have been working on this campaign as long as I have; when a staffer tries to guilt me for not working more, I'm starting to get a little tense.

And I'm optimistic, and worried that they'll steal it, and more worried that people will believe McCain's socialist bullshit, and I'm hoping that Obama's already won.
And I'm kicking myself in the ass for taking off the fourth, but not the fifth. I deserve to sleep in that day.

my former psychiatrist told me that it was pointless getting upset about politics and that I was causing myself undue stress because there was nothing I could do to change it. That's only part of the reason why he is my *former* shrink.

28. All of the above
However I have the reassuring access to a political scientist (Georgetown, Catholic U) who gives speeches about Congress, the Media and Elections, does polling research for Pew...and he gave a talk two weeks ago to a conservative group where he told them that he thinks Obama is gonna get 315 electoral votes! They didn't like that much...But he changed his count a little when I saw him last week..now he thinks it could be as much as 350!

I think you and I are on the same page.

I am #1. wildly hopeful
#2. terrified
#3. nervous, stressed, optimistic, pessimistic and just wishing it was next week already

I am supposed to go to NC on Tuesday again to visit the folks, but I may postpone that, because I don't think I can take the stress of traveling and election day!

I caught a cold this week, first time sick in 3 years.

Coincidence? I think not.

I worry that 75% of the popular vote and 400+ electoral votes will rally the pukes for the midterm.

I didn't even think of that. On the other hand, many - MANY - people are ticked off now that they feel it personally (in their "pocket books" as they like to say). Only time will tell, I guess.
