Went to IKEA!!!
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 03:22 PM by LostinVA
Bought a TV stand, bookcase, blinds, recycling bins, reading lamp, and a zillion small things.

AND SWEDISH MEATBALLS!!!! Well, not Haruka, but she dipped her fries in the lingonberry and cream sauces.

This is actually what I wanted to do for my birthday (which is tomorrow, but the IKEA is closed tomorrow -- Paramus has insane blue laws).

2. I mentioned you when we passed the exit for 23!
I told Haruka we need to have lunch with you some Sunday. You're so close.

4. What's wrong with good American furniture from places like High Point NC?
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 03:41 PM by taterguy
Says the man that's annoyed the closest Ikea is 300 miles away.

Which is a helluva long bike ride in case you couldn't tell.

6. I'd rather go to Washington than Charlotte
Sure, it's further away and contradicts all the things I say about the evils of excessive gasoline consumption but at least there's stuff to do in DC.

10. My (now) Ex-wife and I drove from Chapel Hill to the Washington Ikea once...
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 07:13 PM by leeroysphits
Five hours one way and hours wandering through the biggest, most crowded mall in the univers before we got to the Ikea and all she bought was this lousy Skyar...

Skyar.

7. That's my idea of a fun day!
I went over to ours (10 miles away, blessedly) and got the matching mirror for our bedroom dresser, and a gorgeous set of dessert wine glasses. All new bookcases are on the horizon whenever I get my Christmas bonus.

:hi: :loveya:

And I LOVE the meatballs. Also love their princess cake with a cup of their dark roast coffee. Yum.

8. I really need to do a day trip to the IKEA in Brooklyn
I need a lot of house stuff. And it would be fun to go shopping and then out to eat in the city later.

Happy Birthday!

9. I was excited about going to IKEA too but then I got there.... and
I have to say that I was dissappointed by it. I liked some of the furniture and the houshold goods but I didn't like the miles and miles of cement floors we had to trudge through and they were hard on my feet and the signs directing us to where things were located weren't very good, imho and could be improved. Getting in the store was easy but getting out or finding the exit was confusing and the check out lines are not clearly marked, so people were cutting in front of other people and it seemed chaotic, to me. I bought a few items. One was a sale item for $3.00 and I went through the self-scan and it wouldn't work, even though I put in the code on the sticker and then we had to have assistance. It took to long, imho and they wouldn't let me have a shopping cart on the second floor. Why? I don't know. After all that walking, all I could think was; "I have seen similar stuff for sale much closer to my home and the prices were about the same and a lot less walking!" Maybe I was just in a bad mood that day. It was an unplanned shopping excursion late in the afternoon during rush hour and we got caught in heavy traffic, bumper to bumper, trying to get there. That irritated me a lot. I may try it again after we move this weekend. We'll see. I'm glad you had fun on your day at IKEA! ;)

11. I did that last Sunday...
Bought bedside lamps, a straight chair for the bedroom, cushion for said chair, a decorative box for the nightstand to hide lotion in, and a clock for the bathroom. I had as much fun as you did and it wasn't even my birthday!

As soon as SO recovers from the two nightstands and two dressers he had to put together, I'm returning for a bed, bookcases, and two more dressers. I LOVE that place.

Enjoy your new stuff and happy birthday!

12. Haruka is putting together the TV thing now
I just pound wooden pegs in when asked. IKEA directions are akin to ancient Sansrkit scrolls to me.

We need a few more things, but I always get IKEA gift cards for Xmas, so I said we can wait two months.

OOOOO -- I also bought two Scandirnavian Xmas bulbs: they are HUGE! And, two hooks for the dogs leashes (shaped like puppy tails): a blue one for him and a pink one for her. The Marketplace is a dangerous place.
