1 750 ml bottle dry red wine 1 cup gin 1 cup Cognac 1 cup sugar 1 whole lemon 1 whole orange 1/2 cup lemon juice 1/2 cup orange juice 3 cinnamon sticks ice for serving.
Mix the wine, gin, cognac, and sugar in a pitcher. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Peel the lemon and orange, remove seeds and cut the flesh into small dice.
Add fruit, juices, and cinnamon to the wine mix. Taste for sweetness, add sugar if needed. Chill the sangria for at least an hour before serving if you have the time.
Serve with plenty of ice.
Warning: this is very tasty but knock-you-on-your-ass strong.
When we make it we don't bother peeling and dicing the citrus --we just slice it thinly and throw it in. Usually throw in a lime too.

Red burgundy wine mixed with lemon lime pop 2:1. Cut up cherries and pineapple and put in the bottom of the pitcher, add wine and pop, float orange and lime slices on top, serve over ice.
My book club loves it.
