My step-grandmother died today.
Her name was Marie Kovacs and she was an amazing woman.

She was 94 years old and had a wonderful life.

She was from Canada like my step-mom and was a fun and very liberal woman.

Some of my favorite memories of Marie were when we would go up to visit she would always have some chores for me. My favorite? Tuning her little radio to the Air America station so she could listen to Al Franken. She loved Al Franken and listed to AAR a lot.

My other and my favorite memory is when Michael and I got married last June she sent us the most beautiful card saying "How proud I am to be the step-grandmother to two of the most wonderful men I know".

RIP Marie - I love you !!

much as I loved mine, I know you miss her terribly.

Mine was my mother's stepmother and she was as good a grandmother to us as one could imagine. (in other words, she assisted royally in spoiling us rotten)

edited to add: and mine was a YellowDogDemocrat too.

4. Marie was Canadian ...
But I know she would have voted for Obama if she could have. I'm glad she lived long enough to see Barack elected.

8. Thank you Blue-Jay
Marie was just a wonderful person.

I'm so happy she is a peace now. She gets to meet my brother whom she never knew. My dad married my step-mom after my brother died. I know they are getting to know each other and having a wonderful time right now.

7. So sorry for your loss, ronny.
You and your husband had a wonderful grannie in that one. It's so wonderful when step-relatives truly become family like that.

12. I am so lucky.
I love my step parents just like my own.

My step-mom and step-dad are my parents just like my mom and my late father.

11. Thank you honey ....
She was a hell of a woman. And girlfriend could EAT!! She was just a slip of a gal. But when we would have dinner, Miss Marie got her plate and went for seconds.

One of the sweetest things that happened over the last 48 hours. Marie was in a rest home. When my step-mom took her there we knew that it was only a matter of time that she would pass. There were these 4 cats that live there. Last night this sweet little grey cat kept coming into Marie's room and sat next to her. When my step-mom got to the rest home after Marie had passed, the cat met my step mom at the door and followed her to Marie's room. The cat jumped up on Marie's bed and layed on her, bumping it's head on Marie and cuddling up on her.

She sounds amazing. I am glad she lived to 94 and that she got to see the Democrats into power before she left you. I hope you have a big old hell of a celebration for her life. That cat story is amazing.

33. Excellent memories.
When I met Michael she told my step mom that Michael brought calmness to our family. Just like my dad did when he met my step-mom.

I really miss her.

But in her honor ... this weekend ... we are gonna PARTY!! Just like we did when my dad died.

For a redneck little town, Atascadero CA has many wonderful and loving people.

I love going up there to visit.
