Can anyone tell me why I should re-activate my XM radio in the car?
I stopped about 2 years ago when I found I wasn't using it enough to justify the cost. But I'm considering reactivating it so I can have some news when I'm out of NPR range for my favorite stations.

I used to listen only to the Bob Edwards show and Air America. I'm not sure how interested in either of those I am anymore, and I never strayed much from them.

Has it gotten better over the past couple years? How can I get the best deal? Is it worth having? Does anyone else listen?

David

1. i love it
air america is now "america left"....they play the best of Nova M, Air America...and some others.
I like it. Listen to it all the time.

I don't know if you care about this one, but I listen to Oprah's channel all the time too.

I also flip between all the music stations. sometimes I flip through the comedy channels.
i'm not into sports, so I could care less - but they advertise the heck out of them. If I was into sports, I would probably listen.

For the election, you missed POTUS 08, where you could get speeches (and more) from both candidates without commentary. (kinda like a c-span type thing)

the traffic warnings are valuable if you live in a large urban area.

I'm in the car a lot, so it's GREAT for me. DFW area radio mostly sux as far as I'm concerned.

2. It's not better, it's worse.
They shove all the progressive talk shows on to one channel which means you don't get to hear ANY of them in entirety, and most of them aren't even on at the right time. If it was free, it would merely suck. For $12.95 a month, it's unconsionable. I'll never reactivate my XM radio until they treat Liberal talk radio as fairly as they do the right wing crap.

And I won't reactivate Sirius until they a) put it on XM's satellites so I can actually get a signal and b) fire that horrid PUMA bitch Lynn Samuels who is no more "left" than Ann Coulter.

3. Haha! I'm in the same position.
I liked the XMNav Traffic data, but it's just not worth it for the radio.

They play a lot more radio edited songs than Sirius does (i used to have Sirius as well).

I'm not paying for edited versions of songs that I can hear on the free radio. And i'm not much into talk radio.

4. A quit XM a year ago because they kept dropping the channels I listened to while raising rates.

5. I like it, but I only listen to if for the music. They just merged with Sirius.
And the lineup just changed, by the way, so you might check out and see if there are new offerings that you might like.

7. I like the Ethel station on XM whenever I'm flying Airtran.
They always have a good mix of old and new alternative rock. And I'm glad to say that there are some cool new alternative rock bands that sound pretty good, but unfortunately don't get much play on regular radio.

8. Fred and Ethel are gone...well, renamed
I liked both of them but they have new names now. I hope they continue to play the same kind of music.

10. Oh, lordy, you missed all the election coverage on POTUS 08.
I was SUCH an addict. It was wall-to-wall live coverage of campaign events, original talk shows about the election, and so on. I think that channel is still on, though I'm not sure what they're covering now. I tuned in on Veterans Day and they were carrying a live speech from a veterans event.

I like Air America and the music channels.
