Some recent threads here have reminded me what a Godsend it was that I had |

the opportunity to have been a musician, even though I'm not able to be one anymore.
Music is universal. It's the one, the ONLY single tie that binds EVERY culture, wherever and whenever, going back to dim antiquity, on this planet. Even more so than a shared language.
I have been so, SO fortunate enough to have heard the sound of applause. No matter if it was in the rattiest bar you'd never think of going into for a drink, hearing applause after I finished singing a song was the single best feeling I've ever had. Better than cocaine. Better than sex, even (but PLEASE don't let Mrs R know that I said that last part).
Nothing like it. And I got to experience it.
Am I a fortunate son of a bitch, or what?

My performance days are likely over, but I have great memories. Applause was a great rush, as well as the memory of being able to make a theater full of people laugh when I did some comedic roles. :)
