The local paper really screwed up the editing of my opinion piece |
|
I'm glad they chose to print it, but holy cats...did they ever chop it up. And they really messed up some grammar and punctuation as well; it ticks me off! Dammit! I should have known better than to let them edit it; if I had done it myself and resubmitted it, it would have been MUCH better. Grrrrr. Oh well. *sigh* But it bums me out...I don't want people thinking that the way it was printed was the way I wrote it!

1. That's always the risk - I write pieces for my local paper, and my editor is really good |
|
and I'm thankful for that - but a few times, especially when she has to cut words to make it fit, she's done some pretty weird editing.
It would be nice if there could be some back and forth, but I don't think any newspapers have that kind of time. I imagine she doesn't know how much space she has until the afternoon before they go to press.
