My cat is limping and I can't figure out why |
|
Tiger is an outdoor kitty. He was raised probably as a barn cat. When I adopted him I had an apartment and didn't really do all that well. When I moved to the house, he was out the front door like a shot and refused to come in since then for more than 10 minutes at a time.
The other day I noticed him limping a bit, had a look at his paw and didn't find anything wrong so I left him out. Yesterday he was limping so badly he could barely walk so I scooped him up and carried inside and had a proper look. He sat in my lap and purred and purred.
His claws are fine. If I stroke his leg it's fine. His joints are fine. The only thing he grows about is if I touch the middle of his tummy near his leg on the side that hurts, so I'm wondering if its just a big muscle pull.
He spent last night inside, sleeping in the bathroom doorway and shows no signs of wanting to go outside. Given that he lives on mice and needs to move fast to catch them, he's probably hungry.

1. how old is Tiger. He may have a growth that is pressing on stuff. Take him to the freaking vet. |
|
ESPECIALLY since he's acting abnormal and do it ASAP.

2. He does have a large lump on his abdomen |
|
But it's been there for awhile and doesn't seem to bother him.

Soft tissue injury. He's to stay inside segregated for a week. He's getting a shot and some pills.
The lump on his chest is a congenital birth defect.

It appears to be a soft tissue injury. The vet didn't want to do unnecessary tests or x-rays. He gave him a shot and sent him home with liquid meds to take for the next 5 days. Right now he has hobbled downstairs, I guess to eat. He has to stay inside for the next 5 days.
The vet is not worried about the lump on his sternum. The vet said it was his rib.
Thanks for everyone's well wishes.

10. My cat Milo was limping a couple of months ago, |
|
so I took him to the vet, they said he'd sprained or twisted his shoulder (probably from jumping down off the refrigerator where he hangs out most of the time). He's a bit on the porky side and he might have landed a bit off. He's fine now. It's interesting that an animal as graceful and athletic as a cat can sometimes sprain something.

14. always a good call to look for bites. Cats are notorious for getting abscesses |

We're so far north we don't get a lot of biting insects.
