Followed closely by the viola, then the cello.
What can I say? I love string instruments
Oh, and can actually play the guitar rather well.

3. I can't think of many that I *don't* like... |
|
I love violin...guitar...the bass strings...brass...pipes...drums...reeds...all of 'em. You name it, I like it.
Clarinet might not be my favorite, but when it's played well it's still wonderful.
Good thing, too. I've got two kids who play the trombone, one who plays violin, one plays cello, drums, bass, guitar, two play trumpet, one plays piano (he's learning, anyway), one plays clarinet (which might explain a lot)...and whatever else they can get their hands on.

4. I love a well - played guitar, in any style, |
|
but my first instrument was the bass and I really like to listen to an inventive bassist.
For me, it's the musicianship I enjoy, I don't care so much about the style or type of music.

5. I think this is probably the most powerful piece I've ever performed |
|
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj9Oz9WZ83Ypossibly the most powerful I've ever heard as well. When I did it we did the chamber orchestra version, not the quartet version. But it's basically the same, just more than one instrument on each part except for a few select solos.

16. Ian and Guy are two of my favourite musicians, bar none. |
|
Both have been in so many incredible bands. Guy's energy is paralleled as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U70ZcLRjIqo

12. What music touches me? ALL of it. Of all the instruments I used to play, |
|
(guitar, banjo, mandolin, mountain dulcimer, Autoharp, bouzouki, mandocello), my favorite of all was the Autoharp, maybe because it's the only one of them that you embrace when you're playing it.
But I am every bit as much enamored of music played on instruments I never learned myself: South American panpipes, piano, Oud, harp, Ulliean bagpipes, that Chines zitherlike instrument whose name I can't recall, the Samisen of Japan, whatever.
It's all good.
God, do I miss being able to be a musician.

18. Thanks for that link. Basque music, like that of Brittany and Normandy, has |
|
unique qualities that speak to the fierce loyalty that the people who live in those places have to their cultures.

The song is 8 minutes long, but it's well worth listening to. The video is interesting. I just viewed it for the first time right before posting it. I'd be interested in your take on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZ5zXXUJsyc
