Important repost from bartcop (re bart) |
|
This was posted by bartcopper, SusanNY. Please read and absorb what she posted:
I realize not everyone is a subscriber, so I am going to add this information here.
In Show 29, Bart told listeners that he does NOT want people to ask about his health or the treatment of his illness, he does NOT want people to write just to say how awful it is, he does NOT want people writing to give him medical advice (unless you happen to know of a cure for cancer - and if you do, then you should probably contact someone other than Bart, anyway) and he does NOT want people writing to talk about other people's experience with cancer. Sam is going to screen his messages to keep this kind of stuff from getting through, so don't bother.
I hope people will respect his wishes. He doesn't want to talk about it, so please respect the limits he has set. As a cancer survivor myself, I can understand why he feels the way he does. If you need to talk about this with someone, talk about it with a friend or your therapist, but please don't burden Bart with inquiries about his health or "helpful" advice, etc. One of the difficult things about having a serious illness is dealing with other people's reactions to one's illness. When you are seriously ill, you find out who your real friends are. They are the ones who respect the limits you set. Right now Bart needs us to be strong and determined, as he is. And jokes - he needs jokes.
He says he wants to spend the time he has left making jokes, enjoying himself and making the page and the radio show as successful as they can be. So if people really want to help, send him a check (if you can - I know not everyone can afford to do that, and I also know he would not want to take money from anyone who can't really afford it.)

Shit! I knew he was sick, but is the diagnosis a done deal????
God, I hope not... I love Bartcop!
<on edit - just checked the Bartcop forum. I'm confused, how can one have an untreatable cancer, but live for another 10 years? What kind of cancer is it?>
P.S. - I finally know what "blm" stands for... ;)

He lives right here in my hometown. Is he terminally ill? I feel so bad, but I'll also respect his wishes.

3. Well, I sent him an e-mail last night, after reading the news here. |
|
I mentioned that I read about it on DU. Asked him if it was true that he had untreatable cancer. He e-mailed back and responded by telling me not to be upset, that he was going to be around for a while yet. (paraphrased). He asked what was said on DU, so I sent him the link for last night's thread.
I will certainly respect his privacy, and send him what I can in donations. I wish him nothing but the best, perhaps a cure, and peace no matter what happens.
