Poll question: Follow up to my "Questions" thread. Do you have your passwords saved on your PC somewhere? |

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=8261175&mesg_id=8261175I'm not sure that is a good idea, though I could be wrong. I keep all mine offline on post-it notes as an extra security measure from hackers. And I make my mother do the same. Your thoughts? Am I just being an overly cautious curmudgeon? My vote is NO!

They expressly forbade us to write out passwords, because of security concerns.
That's reasonable enough, but our workday required us to operate in about seven different password-protected systems, several of which were incompatible with the others (due to format constraints, character-length, etc.), and none of which was on the same expiration schedule as any other.
So after a few months you'd find your brain chock full of obsolete passwords, let alone the current ones.

4. Good point that I overlooked. I was thinking of home PC's and not the work environment. |

7. On the computer, not too worried about hackers. |

File is not named "passwords" or similar and the usernames & passwords within are highly abbreviated. It isn't in a text directory or even listed as a text file (and has enough padding plus a file header to fool) and it is hiding among 925000 files totalling 434GB (not including my backup drive).
