I got an email from a friend inviting me to become a friend on the Facebook Profile. However, it appears that I have to sign up for one which I really do not feel like it. I prefer to limit the pages on the Internet that know who I am, etc. Yeah, I am a dinosaur.
Is this really the only way to view that page? By signing up?
Thanks.

1. yeah, but don't bother |

I ignore all of that crap. I got an email today from a friend who I haven't seen for a long time asking me to sign up to something about career networking, that I take is not unlike facebook or any number of things that I'm not involved with. I just wrote back and said that I'm glad to hear from him, but if he wants to catch up, he'll just have to send me an email.

3. My girlfriend is on Facebook and |
|
has been pestering me to join for weeks. I'm not giving in.
I can tell you that even if you have an account, you need to be confirmed by someone as his or her friend to see that person's profile.
I don't see the appeal, myself.

4. Thanks. This is what I thought |
|
I am amazed at the amount of private information that people are willing to post to the world.
Thankfully, I have a common name that googling will drive the googler crazy.

5. We've actually fought over this. |
|
Her last name is rare enough to be the only one (combined with her first name, I mean - there are two others with her last) to show up during a search. People on her friends list can see her date and year of birth, both of her e-mail addresses, her cell phone and our landline. I have a big problem with the latter, since the landline is actually in my name.

she probably does. She's way, way too trusting. She just loaned $300 (which is fairly big cash for us) to her alcoholic friend, as one of many examples.
But I digress. Thanks for letting me know. I'll run it by her, but I think I know how it'll turn out.

8. No problem, just tell her to go to |
|
"settings" ---> "privacy" ----> "profile" and she can control who sees what information, or make it all private (birthday, email addy, phone number). Heck, I didn't even enter that information in the first place when I set up the account. It's optional to put all that in.
