So, if I'm reading the GD zeitgeist properly, fat people are to blame for everything |
|
Why, that's just lovely.
Overweight people have it so easy in every other aspect of their lives that it's about time they were taken to task for their selfishness. And what better place to take a moral stand than on a Progressive forum?

Is where did this come from all of a sudden?
I mean, clearly the prejudice has been there, so I'm not saying that the phenomenon itself is new.
But why the sudden bubbling-up of hatred?
Did I miss a meeting?

there was a bunch of fat hate about 3 or 4 months ago. I'll bet it will calm down again within a day or two and then show up again in a few months.

26. It started because some Canadian court ruled that obese disabled people |
|
who couldn't fit well into one airplane seat were entitled to two seats for the price of one. Somebody posted about it in GD, and that started the whole mess off.

4. I've heard fat people tend to be nicer... |
|
Because they choose to eat their frustrations, rather than take them out on others. I don't know if I'm particularly nice, but I am fat. I plan to do lot of window shopping this Christmas season for the exercise walking around.

It's with sorrow that I look at DU on this topic at times.
I also have to, and would like to add:
Hey, fat haters. Yeah, you. Guess what? I'm in better shape than you. I'm bigger, faster and stronger than you will ever be. I could just as easily point at you as you point at them, and laugh at how weak and pathetic you are. But, I don't. Give it a try.

|
You know, to be honest it's only been this past week or so I've really taken the time to even notice all this hate here. I've lived with so much disrespect and abuse in my lifetime over my weight that what goes on here is barely a blip on my radar. I wish more of the larger DUers could just tune the shitheads out like I pretty much do. I believe that the attention we give them just spurs them on even more. Frankly, I recognize that it's not worth my time or worry. I have way too many problems without it. :(

14. imagine the persecution of fat smokers |
|
:scared:
Seriously when I think of how much time I've wasted in my life thinking I was fat, being miserable because I was fat and putting off things until "when I lose weight" I could just cry. It's so disgusting to me how many people apparently cannot see anything in a person beyond their weight. I know that they are the ones ultimately losing out by their ignorance but I also know that it can be torture to the overweight, especially in the teen years. Shame certainly doesn't do anything to make it better.

18. Yeah, asshole comes in every political flavor. |
|
And apparently, liberals can be as ignorant, small-minded, and judgemental as conservatives. Not a surprise, really. I just stay away from threads like that. It is beneath my dignity to justify my existence in the universe as a person. To me, they are no different than the fundie nuts who hate me and want to punish me for existing as a GLBT human being. I don't waste my time with losers who can't see past their own bigotry.

19. Eat healthy food and you're skinny. Eat unhealthy food and you're fat. Simple. |
|
:sarcasm:
Yeah, I saw a couple of those threads, and some of the irrational hatred there was disgusting. I saw the same sentiment as I stated in my title expressed in those threads, and such uninformed, lateral thinking is scary. And I imagine that anyone that would make such a statement has never had a problem with their own weight, or they would know that it is not that easy.
I hate to say it, but conservatives do not have a monopoly on misplaced morality and righteousness. :puke:

|
that rears its head every so often. Others include: 1.AA-religous cult or helpful orginization. 2.The South-populated with inbred freeptards who,in between lynching blacks, are rolling around with snakes in a religous fervor. 3.Chiropracrors-quacks or for real? 4Smoking. 5.Kudzu-lets not go there. 6. Olive Garden/Times Square. Lets not go there, either. There always seems to be a flame war going on one of these topics, plus a war on the topic du jour,at any given time here.

When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life.
