2. Two shovels and a bottle of LSD - they'll hallucinate all sorts of things, like how they did in 1968 |
|
Like how John Lennon was for peace and love -- while at the same time hitting women and mocking the handicapped. (read "John Lennon: The Life" - I suspected Lennon was less than a masterpiece when he made his Jesus reference and then decided to look the part too.
He can rot in hell.

4. He didn't say he was Jesus, he said he was more popular than Jesus. |

5. I wonder how Philip Norman's life would stand up to the same scrutiny? |
|
Or yours? Or mine?
_Most_ of us are "less than a masterpiece." That's called "being human."

9. Wow! Genuine iconoclasm! |
|
There's lots of the fake sort around here, but hats off to the real thing.
Lennon was a genius and an ass. Not an unusual combination.

12. How about all of the Jesus adherents who threatened to kill Lennon after those misconstrued remarks? |
|
Do you damn them to hell, too? After all, threatening to kill someone based on innuendo is hardly Christ-like behavior.
The full quote from Lennon, made to a reporter who also was a friend of Lennon's, as it appeared on March 4, 1966 in the London Evening Standard: "Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn't argue with that; I'm right and I will be proved right. We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first - rock 'n' roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me."
Lennon's remarks were a commentary on popular culture in the UK at the time. I find it more than a little strange that a progressive would wish for someone to "rot in hell" for commenting on popular culture.

10. They'd find some new way to break up. |

Lennon could resurrect himself, for instance. Those two egos are too big even for the afterlife. :)
