My last day of work was last Wednesday.
I am now "out on disability."

On Monday my boss receives the letter from my doctor saying that I need 2 months off to see if my situation improves. This puts me officially on a leave of absense and lets me pay to extend my insurance. I have to do this because 2 of my doctors will not take medicaid so I have to keep my insurance no matter what.

I still have to deliver the paperwork to get a loan from my 401k. That's going to take 3-5 weeks to process and then I have to start paying it back immediately. That's going to hurt, becuase I don't think they're letting me borrow nearly enough. But it will have to be enough.

So now the adventure begins. :P

Anyone want to come and hang out with me all day while I find the Public Assistance and Social Security offices? :)

5. I can't tell you how much help you have been.
It means a lot to me that I can call you with questions about some of this stuff.

You have saved me a whole lot of stress and frustration.

I have been doing a lot of research, getting conflicting information, and you're right. Now I have time to do even more research to make sure I have all the right information.

2. Hey
I wish I could go hang out with you while you find the public assistance and social security offices, but I can't. :-( Not only that, but I'd probably just make *both* of us get lost! lol :hi:

6. Getting lost in NYC is kind of fun
as long as we have enough money to afford lunch when we find some cool little restaurant in some neighborhood we stumbled across. :P

3. Contact the NY Protection and Advocacy system
Every state had P&A system, and I worked several years for the one in Alabama. Try going here http://www.cqcapd.state.ny.us/. Here's an description of what services they provide, http://www.cqcapd.state.ny.us/advocacy/pamaj.htm#overview, and local legal services, http://www.cqcapd.state.ny.us/advocacy/palist.htm#PABSS.

Best of luck. I got SSDI on my first try without a hearing or a lot of harassment, just had to get some records from my Dr., and go for an exam by their Dr. It took about 5-6 months for them to process everything.

Good luck!

9. I am yours...
...in all my non-working hours!

sadly, that does not help much, unless you find an all night Social Services Department?
