I need some help!
I put a picture into my sig, and it's really tiny. I see some pics that are fairly large and I don't know how to do that. When I upload, I get an error saying that the image is over 20k. Can someone please tell me how to do this?

Me. The inept one.

1. If it is a BMP format
Save it as a jpg, or gif, you can do that in MS paint. Just open it, then save it changing the file type in second dropdown box.

If it is small pic, and over 20 K that would be my guess as why.

2. It is a jpg
The original image is 6x5 and everything is very sharp. I notice that the small one is pretty blurry. What settings do you use to make a larger image that will work?
BTW Thanks for your help.

3. Not sure if I can help with what you are trying to do.
Well with most image programs you can set the compression level. That way you can trade off size for clarity.

I not sure what else you can do except maybe use images with fewer colors, or try gif or png format from the original image.

When you resize an image, different programs decide how to merge pixels differently to create better images. Thats where the fuzzyness might also be comming in. With MS Paint you only get one method.

6. The image started out at 200 dpi
5 x 6 inches. It seems weird to me that it lost clarity by making it smaller. It's perfectly sharp on the original.

Clearly I have a lot to learn.

4. The image
you got there is only 5-6K so it could be almost 4 times bigger.

7. See? That's my problem.
I have to use photoshop (I don't have MS Paint) and when I put it the numbers it gets really small. It shows as 20k, but in the real world, like you say, it's 4-5k. Yet when I try to put it in my profile, it balks.

Numbers. Bleh.

5. PM me with the original, I'll see if I can shrink the filesize down without shrinking the image.
