I am watching every "X-Files" episode in order, from beginning to end. The films, too. |
|
Not in one sitting, mind you.

1. I would only watch the "mythology" episodes and the movies. |
|
Cause I didnt care much for the freak episodes I was more interested in the story arc.

8. I'm inclined to agree, but some of the monster of the week episodes are great. |

10. Hum Bug is one of the best episodes IMHO |
|
Another of my favs is "Ronnie the Vampire" with Luke Wilson. It was kind of jokey but not as much as the episodes that followed it.

16. You're insane. And I say that as one who has no training in psychology whatsoever |

I can't stand most of the mythology episodes. Ponderous and plodding, and you knew in every single one of them that there would never be anything like a satisfactory resolution. Or even a partial resolution. However, I admit that I really kind of liked the first film (haven't seen the second).
Here's my yardstick for determining if an episode mostly sucks: 1. It's about Scully's cancer, how she got it, or how she got rid of it 2. It's about Mulder's sister, how he lost her, and how he might/might not have found her
Either of those criteria is usually enough to make me want to hurl before the closing credits, but YMMV.
IMO the one-shot episodes were much stronger and more entertaining, because they let the characters cut loose a little more and be themselves. For me, all of the memorable moments from the series come from the one-shots.

I have all the DVDs and movie and I did the same thing. I saw the second movie in the theater but didn't care for it much.

6. The second episode was essentially a two hour monster of the week episode. |
|
I prefer the mytharc myself.

14. I slightly prefer the monster of the week stuff |
|
but after the entire series I was expecting the second movie to involve the giant alien conspiracy. That's the only reason I was kind of disappointed. I think it could have been a great first couple season episode if it was shortened.

3. If you did it in one sitting, you'd end up like the Flaming Carrot |
|
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaming_Carrot:P (I'm watching Babylon 5 in order at the moment. At the end of Season 4 now...)

when it's obvious that the mytharc episodes are going NOWHERE.
Which took about 5 seasons, IIRC.

15. I think it does okay until "Biogenesis." Then things go downhill but quick. |
|
Although I think the real jump doesn't occur until "Existence." I quit watching after that (well, until the finale, which was actually good). No point.

11. Very different. It's like a two hour monster of the week episode. No conspiracy mythology stuff. |
|
It's a pretty enjoyable flick if you're an X-Files fan though.
