The name Wartrace evolved from Native Americans who used area trails as warpaths or war trails. In the early 1800's Andrew Jackson purchased a large tract of land from James Robertson that included the site of present day Wartrace. In 1813 Old Hickory is said to have carved "this is War Trail Creek" into a beech tree near the stream that bears the name Wartrace Creek today.

You may also be interested in our "claim to fame", we are home of the first grand champion Tennessee walking horse "Strolling Jim", the old guy is buried behind the Wartrace hotel.

I lost my original "handle" after I forgot my password so I decided on one that I could remember.

The whole area I live in is part of the Tullahoma campaign during the civil war. The road I live on was a Federal line that overlooked a key road. People have found all kinds of artifacts around here. There is even a confederate cemetery where I get on the interstate to get to work. They were all killed at the Battle of Hoovers gap, the first engagement that the Union forces used Spencer repeating rifles.

I am thankful that the real estate boom has slowed down a bit, too much history was being covered up with subdivisions. A LOT of Tennessee has lost its southern charm but if you get far enough away from the sprawl & cities it still exists. (the good aspects)

My old handle was nothing in particular, just pulled out of thin air while trying to come up with something & that's why I didn't bother trying to get it back.

Cops: Cape Girardeau woman kills man who returned to rape her second time

An intended rape victim shot and killed her attacker this morning in Cape Girardeau when he broke into her home to rape her a second time, police said.

The 57-year-old woman shot Ronnie W. Preyer, 47, a registered sex offender, in the chest with a shotgun when he broke through her locked basement door.
The woman told police he was the same man who raped her several days earlier. Officials do not intend to seek charges against her.

In the first incident, the woman heard glass breaking in her basement about midnight on Saturday. She went to leave the house, and the man attacked when she opened the front door. He punched her in the face and then forced her into a bedroom, where he raped her, said H. Morley Swingle, prosecuting attorney in Cape Girardeau County.

The victim reported the crime to police, and her landlord repaired the broken window.

She was home alone again Friday about 2:15 a.m. when Preyer broke the same basement window. The victim was awake watching television, when Preyer switched off the electricity to her house.

She tried to call 911, but couldn't because the power was off. She got a shotgun and waited as the man began banging on the basement door. She fired when Preyer came crashing through the door. When Preyer collapsed, the woman escaped and went to a neighbor's home, where she called police. Officers, who arrived within a minute, found a bleeding Preyer stumbling away from the house. He was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where he died several hours later.

Swingle said the victim identified Preyer as the attacker in both incidents. Preyer, of Jackson, Mo., had wet caulking from the recently repaired basement window on his clothing when he was shot.

"I will not be filing any sort of charge against this 57-year-old woman, who was clearly justified under the law in shooting this intruder in her home," Swingle said.

Don't tell me that woman didn't do the right thing.

At close range it is difficult to think of a more effective man-stopped. It shoots .45 caliber pistol ammunition and if my memory serves me right, its rate of fire is 800 rds./minute.

A machine gun permit requires an extensive background check and a big fee. Apart from its illegality, you cannot steal one. Their possession is too tightly regulated.

In terms of what really is legally available under Federal law at least, the AK-47 is probably your best choice. The civilian-legal versions have no "rate of fire" because they require a separate trigger squeeze for each shot. Their .30 caliber rounds have great stopping power, more than the U.S. 5.56mm, but over a more limited range than U.S. .30 cal. They are inexpensive and indestructible. Loaded with frangible ammunition, they are suited for home defense. The regular full metal jacket rounds are good for the rifle range and for pest control over open range, but will go right through an assailant, the wall and your neighbor's house.

Obviously, it is too big for concealed carry. I suggest a smallish 9mm or .40 cal. pistol or a 5-shot revolver for that.

The Russian 2S7 "Pion" self-propelled gun fires a 203mm artillery shell. If you use rocket-assisted rounds, you can ruin the day of anyone within 31 miles of you. They made over a thousand of these, so there should be a few available on the black market. Be careful, though: all the controls are marked in Russian.

One shot per trigger pull is all you get, unless you want to apply for Federal authorization to own a NFA Title 2/Class III restricted automatic weapon. Be prepared to shell out $17,000 or so for a civilian-transferable AK-47, assuming the Feds grant you a Form 4.

Outside those parameters, a .73 caliber (12-gauge) shotgun is the most lethal of NFA Title 1 civilian firearms; a single shell of 000 buckshot is equal to a long burst from a Title 2 restricted Uzi submachinegun.
