Today's College Football Thread -- Conference Championship Edition
Not a lot of games today, but they're mostly good ones. They aren't all championship games, either: Army-Navy kicks off in a few minutes, and Arizona vs. Arizona State play later tonight.

As for the games with championship/BCS implications:
The ACC Championship Game is Boston College (looking for their first ever BCS Bowl) and Virginia Tech.
The SEC Championship game between Florida and Alabama (winner goes to the BCS Championship Game) is on mid-afternoon.
USC can win the Pac-10 by beating UCLA this afternoon.
The Big 12 Championship between Oklahoma and Missouri is on later tonight.

There are also a few other games for Big East teams (Pitt v. UConn, S. Florida v. W. Virgina, Cincinnati v. Hawaii), but Cincinnati already has the conference won. Also a few Pac 10 teams are playing today, as are some smaller conference teams ... and, of course, playoffs continue in divisions other than the FCS.

So what games are you looking forward to?

1. UNH vs. UNI
University of New Hampshire Wildcats versus University of Northern Iowa Panthers in the Division 1-AA (I refuse to use that other term) playoffs.

Interesting angle: My sister and one of my brothers are UNH graduates, as are a lot of my friends. My brother-in-law is a faculty member at UNI.

3. We're going to the game tonight!
Last year UNI defeated UNH by just 3 points in the 1st round of the playoffs, so you KNOW this game is going to be a nail-biter!!

I'd like to wish your team luck...but...

Go Panthers!! :woohoo:

but since our games are played in The UNIDome it will be 68-70 degrees at the game. :7

Last week's game vs. Maine was incredible, I hope UNI can keep it up.

2. Weber State (10-3) at Montana (12-1) - Playoffs baby!

12 noon, MST

FIRST GAME THIS SEASON - Oct. 4

On a cold, windy, rainy afternoon, the Wildcats finally got the "bear" of its back with a
45-28 defeat of #3 ranked Montana. The win snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Grizzlies,
and also snapped Montana’s 25-game win streak in regular season games and 16-game win streak in
Big Sky Conference games.

Though we are not much better at the present (one year into a rebuilding) but at least we didn't lose to them.

It looks like Steve Sarkisian, the OC for USC is going to be their next HC.

Couple of times it looked like Alabama had things in control, but Florida always found a way to explode. They had a great fourth quarter.

26. I give up ...

I can't predict anything about college football anymore.

Tech and OU is supposed to be this dual offensive blowout, with something like 300 point scored by the half.

OSU - OU ... OSU's defense was supposed to hold OU down, below 50 anyway.

This OU-Mizzou game was supposed to be a total offensive frenzy.

And here we are at 3-0 with the punts piling up.

35. Yeah, that was awesome ...

I made a severe mistake and wandered over to the ESPN live discussion.

Remind me not to do that ever again. I can deal with rabid fans, and I can certainly understand Texas fans' frustration, but dearlord that crap over there is insane.

Did you know that this is all a conspiracy by the referees? They're all mad at Texas for some crap that happened a few years back, and this is their revenge. Referees did this to Texas. Presumably they made them lose to Tech. :eyes:

36. lol
Nothing fosters conspiracy theories like college football :) Every team's fans think the refs and the media has it in for them

But while the refs can certainly make a difference (as we saw in Oregon a few years back), they'd have to work pretty hard to create a 31-point halftime lead ;)

37. They're a powerful bunch ...

The whole *season* has been orchestrated.

And they're sinister bastards. I mean, the refs' whole point has been to put the inferior Sooners into the championship game just to piss off the Longhorns. It wouldn't have been enough to let the Sooners win in Dallas. They had to make sure they lost and *then* turn it all around just to make the Longhorns as angry as possible.

...

I'm a bit worried about a FL v. OU matchup. OU's offense will have to be clicking on every cylinder, and the defense will have to play the best game they've played all season I'm thinking.

52. I'm sure it's Obama's fault ...

The discussion was turning political when I gave up on it. I'm quite certain that's where it was going.

We're going to have problems with Tebow's running ability, especially if they get a lead or it's close in the late quarters when OU's defense seems to shut down entirely.

But it will be fun, one way or another.

60. I'm thinkin' so too ...

I'm pretty much done with the attempts at justification of another outcome.

These are the rules, and this is how it turned out according to those rules. If Texas had won against Tech or if OU hadn't *crushed* Tech the way it did, the question wouldn't exist.

And there you have it.

I do feel bad for Texas, but I'm pretty certain OU has faced the gauntlet and proved itself.
