How many and which corporate brands are on your body right now?
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 03:38 PM by sixmile
Including clothing, shoes, fragrances, deodorants, cosmetics, hair products:

I count six featuring Levis as the codpiece.

Licensed apparel (sweat shirt) from my university.

I wash with homemade castile soap I purchase from a mom and pop operation and use generic shampoo on what hair I still possess.

I shave with Wilkinson blades in a safety razor that once belonged to my great uncle. Blades are good for more than a dozen shaves and cost about thirty cents in bulk quantities.

Inside my stomach right now is coffee, but no name brand there either, eschewing "Charbucks" for the product of a local roaster.

And I don't wear my Luminox on weekends:

45. I guess I misunderstood what you meant by "corporate" brands....
I thought you meant big name/well known brands, of which I am wearing only two Colman - my watch (I don't like women's watches and I miss my paint covered G-Shock but they don't make the model anymore. The Coleman is a pretty decent substitute... for $20 bucks) - and Scotch - blue tape keeping my dollar store glasses together. Barely.

I'm wearing my daughter's hand-me-down jeans, and I don't see a name brand or label anywhere... Nor do I see one on my shirt, but I think I got it from Target.

My toe rings are from Key West or Cape Cod or both.

When I go outside to walk my dog, I'll be wearing Birkenstocks (2.99 at Goodwill - brand new). My dog is not a name-brand, he's a lab mix mutt but he DOES have a microchip, does that count? : )

64. I almost never buy anything new, so it's kinda moot
thrift store purchases for almost all of my wardrobe, and a few homemade items.

I get your point (sort of), but as I am buying them used, I am supporting local businesses with almost all of my clothes purchases - the Salvation Army, Goodwill, and other charity thrifts.

In fact, the only things I am wearing right now which are not used are socks and undies, but I could not tell you what brand they are.

26. My shirt is Adidas, my shoes are Reeboks,
my eyeglasses are Guess (awkward moment taking my glasses off and then trying to read what brand they were!) my bra is Hanes (I love sportsbras, I am a big girl and they are comfy) and my drawers are Delta Burke (her brand has nice panties--not those plain granny-looking things.) I don't think of these so much as corporate brands, but I have a lingering scent of Aura Cacia Amber-patchouli perfume oil and I have Priti nail polish in "Magic man" on my nails.

edited to add - crest, I do brush my teeth and the soap is something from dial (soy almond liquid soap) I think.

57. Five buttons, six rivets...
...two tags (back pocket and inside waistband) and the actual brand on the outside of the left pocket, inside the pants (the part that touches your left thigh). All have the Levi's logo on them.

But I misunderstood the question. The OP just wanted to know how many different brands of stuff you were wearing, not the actual number of logos you were sporting.

50. ah. That's if you're current styles, I'm guessing...
I don't buy new jeans - ever. But I do buy Levi's (and Abercrombie, AE, Ralph Lauren, Hollister, etc. Didn't pay more than $7 for any of them, half that usually. Personally, I like utility and quality over "fashion" but having a teenage daughter has pointed me in the direction of the non-Levi brands).

I like good quality, I just can't afford to buy it new. I'd rather by a well-made t-shirt at goodwill for a couple of bucks than buy a new one at Wal-mart that is designed and made poorly and will fall apart after one wash. The hard part is finding stuff long enough (someone added all my height at my waist, apparently, and I don't really do the bare belly thing...

I wish I could freaking sew...

52. that's why goodwill is (for me) a necessity.... unfortunately, they
seem to vary from state to state. In NY they're pretty shoddy, in AZ they're pretty incredible. Every two weeks they run a 50% off sale at 7:00am, and I had to laugh the last time I managed to get to one, the parking lot was full of Mercedes, BMWs, etc. If I had money, I'd still rather find "current style" jeans for $7 rather than $40 or more...

If I bought clothes new at the Limited Too, Old Navy, etc., it would cost HUNDREDS of dollars (for my younger one)... and the neat thing is that kids grow out of stuff before they wear them out, so many of this stuff has hardly been worn. Some of it I'm sure hasn't (kids get things they don't like or doesn't fit as gifts... what do people do? Donate it to Goodwill! Enough do, anyway.).

You do have to learn how to hunt well, and spot certain things in a sea of blecch. But it's worth the time to get used to it. I buy a new pair of Birkenstocks every year, and if they've been worn, I couldn't tell (this is rare, I've gotten lucky). I bought a pair new once and they ran about $80.... so 2 - 3 pairs in the last 2 years for 3 - 5 dollars.... let's see: would I want (or be able) to spend $240 for shoes (sandals) or would I rather spend $9-15? It's not even a question.... (you have to be very picky and careful with shoes, however, but I know what to look for. Not something to be careless about...

Goodwill has noticed, though, and their prices have gone up. Not enough to be no longer worth it, but I don't buy things that are full price - ever. Even at Goodwill. And I never buy anything I can't wash/disinfect/sanitize/etc. - thoroughly....

I don't know what I'd do if I had to buy new, brand name clothes for my kids - no exceptions... I couldn't do it. Period.

I used Axe Body Wash, and I can still smell it on my skin, so there's one. Then I put on deodorant - Degree clinical strength. Then I put on a pair of Fruit of the Loom boxer briefs. And now I'm wearing a MN Golden Gophers t-shirt and Starter shorts. Oh, and I'm not sure what brand it is, but I'm also wearing eye glasses.

So I'm wearing six different corporate brands right now.

Edited to add I brushed my teeth with Crest Total Care and used the same brand mouth wash. So seven.

If I'm covered in paint or dirt or dog hair, I'm most comfortable. Paint and dog hair do not get along, however... so that's tricky...

I've read about that PrepH thing... does that really work? What does it do? If I have to spend more than 2 minutes putting makeup on I get really bored and annoyed... I liked the idea (in theory) of tattoo eyeliner (not that I could afford it or would actually do it) but makeup is such a drag. I don't mind wearing it once it's on, I just don't like having to deal with it to get to that point. Plus, I can't see, so the less I do the better, I guess.... : )
