All my birches are gone.
All my beautiful birches. The ice brought them crashing down. The sound was heartbreaking. This was an awful storm and I fear there will be more damage tonight. No power, no phone, roads impassable. Best thing I ever did was get an emergency generator.

1. I hope you can stay safe and warm.

I'm sorry for all the damage, and the loss of your beautiful birch trees. As long as you come through this well, everything else can be repaired and replanted.

12. I was immediately tempted to copycat this
But I'm not sure if that's a banned word here or not. I remember the great Bitch Wars of years past so the copycat would be better placed in GD.

6. You're one of the MA folks that went through the ice storm?

9. No. I'm in SW New Hampshire, We got nailed. Western Mass did
too. The generator now seems to be essential equipment up here.

We had a beautiful stand of paper birches on our NH property.
Ice storms suck.

thick as the glass itself from the windshield this morning. It's all gone now, though, along with the uber winds that were rocking the trailer back and forth.

I'm very sorry about your birch trees. They do seem very susceptible to ice storms. :(

14. This is my daughter's introduction to winter
She just left FL to live with a boy in MA and hadn't even done snow before. Half her clothes are still en route. She told me a couple days ago it had gotten up to almost 60, which didn't sound right at all; it apparently rained right after that. She was most shocked at how ill-prepared everyone seems to be, since she's had hurricane preparedness hammered into her all her life. They were able to get out and stock up on food that won't require cooking and a grill to use on the deck, and she said no one else seemed to have thought of it. Luckily, they got power back in under two days, but her BF's parents in Rutland think they'll be without power at least a week. For some reason, the idjuts drove over there and she said even the power poles were snapped over one after another. A longstanding family joke is from the UCB episode where "trees are down," which she was amused to learn isn't quite as funny IRL.

Sounds like it's supposed to get really cold over the weekend. I was just bitching about sweltering this week (several days in the 80s) and would gladly take some of that. (If nothing else, it makes the damned tourists think twice about coming this way.)
