Poll question: Should I grant our Christmouse a stay of execution?
A few weeks ago we had mice in the utility room.
I bagged 4.
Used regular old mousetraps.
Thought I had 'em all.
No.

Today Miz t. found a bag of corn meal chewed into and scattered about IN THE PANTRY!
In HER kitchen!
Now it's (they're?) in the house.
Uh oh.

So...in the spirit of the season...it being Christmas Eve and all...should I grant the little guy(s?) a stay until at least tomorrow before I bait the traps?

Or is this a situation that should not be tolerated, period.
?
Or ?

1. Get a live trap
Trap him or her

Then release him or her in a field of raspberries

Fricasseed Mouse?
Mouse Benedict?
Mouse Mousse?
Mouse stuffed olives?
In a Martini?
The possibilities are endless.

3. My dear trof!
I am torn!

It's true that he's a rodent, and they carry disease and suchlike...

OTOH, it's Christmas!

Can you get him outside?

6. Unfortunately herding mice is even more difficult than herding cats.
They don't 'shoo'.
They just run for the dark places.
And...a couple of very talented neighbor cats would be waiting outside.
:-(

4. Being a pacifist and all
I had to go with the "negotiate" option. Give diplomacy a chance.

8. I'll talk to him. Her. Them.
If they're willing to just leave, I'll guarantee them safe passage.

9. Ugh...at the risk of sounding mushy and all ( and everyone knows I'm not mushy )
do what you can to let the little guys out alive.

When I lived at my grand moms house ( she had an acre and a half of property as her backyard ) we got them ALL of the time, and they loved to hide underneath the stove ( under the stove was a pull-out drawer she had that kept most of the pots and frying pans, and it wasn't uncommon to find several mouse turds in there ) We would be sitting there eating dinner and you saw three or four tails sticking out from underneath the old stove. Later on my sisters friend got us this mouse trap ( some spring-loaded trap that you put bait in ) and we woke up one morning to find four of the little bastards in there...nibbling away at the peanut-butter crackers that were waiting for them inside. We released them into the field and they didn't seem to come back.

I realize they can carry disease and all that shit, but having hamsters as a kid, I guess I have a soft-spot for rodents of any kind. They're just looking for warmth and food...like us.

10. Miz t. lowers the veto hammer.
On domestic questions/situations we reached an agreement almost 40 years ago.
Within the confines of our actual dwelling, she has veto power.
You might call it Absolute Power.
I call it Keeping The Peace.

Without, extending to the bounds of the actual piece of dirt that we might occupy, I am King*.
*Not to include that portion of our property that is, in fact, immediately adjacent to the exterior structure of the domicile proper.
Domicile perimeter landscaping lies within her exclusive bailiwick.

She says the mice must go...TONIGHT.

However...since I have become, over the years, experienced in diplomatic negotiation of this sort, I will just say "Yes, dear".
And do nothing tonight.
No traps will be set.
She will move on to something else and forget about it for a day or so.
I am a slick and wily devil.

11. She's absolutely right, of course.
You must kill the little bastard. Tonight.

I hate rodents, and they will not share my lodgings if I can help it. I don't care if it is Christmas Eve. Fuck 'em.

15. I have to agree with Miz t.
Once the little beady eyed squeaky rodent gets into your pantry, the amount of cleaning and disposing of damaged, chewed on, pooped and peed on goods may be more than you realize.

13. Catch them in live traps, imprison them, and then waterboard the little terrorists.
Maybe you can find out where the notorious Mousama bin Laden is hiding.

16. Yeah, let them slide a day or two.
The only thing I'm gonna be killing is several bottles of Shiner Bock and one Maker's Mark.

Peace and Cheers!
