From now until Dec. 31: Listen to the 2000 best records of all-time on free live radio! |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-25-08 09:31 PM by DutchLiberal
No, this is *not* spam, and I'm not trying to advertise or sell anything. I just want to share some terrific music with all who is interested. If you're a music freak, you might like this. Dutch radio 2 is airing the 2000 best songs of all time, and you can listen to it live on their website, for free (because it's our public radio). They air this from now until December 31 midnight, non-stop!
They air this every year and all listeners can vote on records the weeks before they start. However, this year they counted all votes from the past 9 years (they do it every year), so they counted millions of votes, and made up the ultimate Top 2000! Mostly music from the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's, it also includes pop music from the 1990's and 2000's, as well as much older material. I guess about 90% of it is American/British records, the other 10% consisting of Dutch, French and German music.
You can listen whenever you want. Just go to: www.radio2.nl and click on "Luister Live" in the upper-right corner. From time to time, a DJ will briefly interrupt for the latest news events, and to read listeners' e-mails. Next to the 'Top 2000' logo, you will see which record they're playing. Click on the word "hier" to the left of the two arrows to see the complete list. You can also select a list for every hour, but this is set on local time.
Enjoy! :hippie: :headbang: B-)

3. Very cool link - thanks... For those who want to view the site in English |
|
Go to the link DutchLiberal posted, Copy the URL Open a new tab or window paste the entire address into the Google search field and when the hits come up, click on "Translate this page"... Or wait, here's the link translated if you're not a DIY kind of person... (silly me). http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=nl&u=http://top2008.radio2.nl/&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://top2008.radio2.nl/page/08_homepage%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG(I didn't see a link - or a little flag on the site - but I could have missed it. If so, ignore this post - or use it for future reference... I find it comes in handy). : ) Thanks again!!!

Here and there the grammar is lacking, but this is a great solution for DU'ers who want to enjoy the music! Thanks so much!

Except when I went there I saw Shania Twain listed as one of the greatest 2000 records of all time? Based on what criteria?

9. A lot of people have voted on it in the last 9 years. |
|
Although I'm not a fan of her music, I would say she is relevant in a Top 2000, as she was one of the most prominent new female performers in the 1990's, presenting a kind of 'female power' in music that was rare at the time, since the music industry was dominated by pre-fabricated teenpop like Britney Spears and the Spice Girls.
But don't worry, there is enough *real* great music to enjoy.

8. There are few places I would trust to come up with a list like that... |
|
WXPN out of Philadelphia is one, Dutch radio is another. After all, they support Mike Keneally and the Metropol Orkest.
