I've come to a conclusion, and this might upset a few people, but here goes: |
|
All beer tastes pretty much the same, more or less.
My sis got me the "Beers of the World" sampler pack for Christmas, and after having gone through a good number of them, I've decided that they all generally taste like, well, beer.
Sure, some might be a little stronger, some might be a little weaker, but beer inevitably will be beer. I know some of you will claim that you know that one special brew that tastes head and shoulders above the rest, but to burst your bubble, it will probably just taste like beer to me.
This is far from a slight against the alcoholic beverage that is beer, because I like beer. I like beer a lot. Beer is my friend. It's just that to me, you can slap a different label on the bottle and it will still end up tasting like beer to me.

I'd wager that there isn't a person alive who could such a vile substance near enough to their face to drink it, not even through a straw. It smells like wet garbage left to stew in its' own fluids.

|
not trying to be insulting, but I have had gallons of different beers in different settings throughout the world and can tell you the difference from smells to tastes based on variances in hops, barlies, and other ingredients etc.
Now, to me all wine tates basically the same and burns

I can differentiate wine pretty well, beer not as much.
In the end, it's all alcohol, and alcohol is good, so I'll drink to that.

|
Sure they all have four wheels and a windshield, and the all go straight and turn, but the differences are many and unique if you're looking for them.
I submit that either you do not have a "taste" for beer, or you have not tried enough variety. Mass produced beers are fairly similar, but the smaller brewries definitely produce unique tasting beer.

|
If it's beer, it ought to taste like beer. I would hope that all wine would taste like wine, all coffee would taste like coffee, etc. That's my experience, thus far. The joy comes from the differences between the beers.... differences worth exploring, because they are all beer, beer, glorious beer.

The variation between lagers, hefeweizen, bocks, stouts, porters, and ales alone is massive.
