Simple for me - E.T.

Never seen it and no desire to see it. And right now it's on HBO like 24x7 - it's almost the new Caine-Hackman theory except right now at any given time on HBO you can find ET playing on one of it's 200 different channels.

1. Don't see it, I always thought it was way overrated
A good enough kids movie I guess, that's it. I can't believe it's one of the most successful movies ever.

2. The Godfather (any of 'em).
Supposedly, the first installment is essential--but I don't have much interest in seeing a gangster movie, even a magnificent one.

9. Jaws is a very good movie.
2001 has great visuals, but the pacing is not so great, and the ending really doesn't make any sense in the film version, even if you already know it from the book.

Schindler's List and GWTW are both long, boring movies that would not have garnered much attention had they not been about such emotionally charged subjects. IMO. I'm sure others will disagree. Both are decent filmmaking, but not in any way must-see.

17. I don't think Schindler's List is at ALL boring...
horrifying yes..boring no. And it earned every award it got IMHO. But the holocaust is personal to me, so that might be part of it...

18. It's spectacularly overlong, and has long stretches where nothing much happens.
Which is my point- if it were about a subject people took less personally it would have received much less attention/acclaim. People praise it for being a decent mainstream movie about the holocaust, a subject wrapped up in a great deal of easily exploited emotion, not because it's especially great filmmaking. It's not even close to being Spielberg's best film, let alone a particularly great film.

on watching it. Because it's kind of a downer, I heard.

26. Brokeback Mountain
It's on my Netfix list, but I rarely watch movies in theaters these days. Too many people haven't learned basic manners (no cell phones, no loud talking, no feet on the back of your seat, etc.) for it to be enjoyable, plus the damned movies cost too much unless I'm lucky enough to catch a twilight show.
