Amazing -- Just type in your favorite song and the "music genome project" analyzes it to produce songs that it predicts you will like based on certain characteristics of the given song. You can skip the songs you don't like, or give them a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" so the system can continue to refine what you like. Totally fascinating to me.

Right now I'm listening to a station created around the shoegaze song "Vapour Trail" by the group Ride. I also did one based around REM's "Pretty Persuasion" and it came up with a lot of great jangly guitar songs from past and present.

1. Heck ya!
I and many coworkers listen to it all the time. Best way to concentrate and get stuff done in cubicle land! I enter artists, not songs, though. It kept playing Beatles today for some reason, although I have never given them the thumbs up.

7. I'll try it with an artist next.
Maybe something quite obscure, just to see what comes up.

6. It's great stuff. The more artists you put in, the better the selection gets. I've learned of
several new bands that I would have never heard of otherwise.

8. I know ! I've already found a few bands I like a lot and had never heard of previously.
I was getting frustrated with iTunes; it kept recommending the same bands to me.

26. Very enjoyable
It turned me on to Cake, who I love (you have to realize I haven't listened to music on the radio since like 1989, so Cake is incredibly recent for me)

22. Yahoo! music used to do that, don't know if they still do.
And as songs played you could pick how much you liked them on a scale of 1 (never play this again) to 5 (I really like this one).

That was... jeez, last time I listened to that was when I was still with my last serious ex. And we broke up in like '04 or '05 or something. So it's been a while.

32. ... although this seems a lot better because it actually compares styles
to find things that you might like that you haven't heard of. Whereas Yahoo! radio just plays stuff that's already on the REGULAR radio.

25. Love Pandora.
It's been my goto music choice for something like a year now. Much better than listening to the radio, for rock anyway. Also check out Slacker radio, it does the same basic thing as well.

http://www.slacker.com/

I can only get it to work in Internet Explorer, not Firefox for some reason. I like pandora better, though.

So I still have to go trawling through Amazon France and Germany. But it's great if you're looking for a particular sound.

I've been a Pandora addict for years - it keeps me sane at work.

I'm really addicted to my David Grisman station lately - great high energy instrumentals that make the day go a lot easier. :hi:

38. Django is Djamazing!
Some of my favorite musicians have been heavily influenced by Django. If you haven't heard him before, check out Joe Craven, he's one of the seeds in my "Craven' Grisman" station in my sig. Craven has a great CD out called "Django Latino" - brilliant stuff!

39. Ditto!
I just found Pandora around a month ago too, and it totally blows my socks off.

And I too have heard The Tuna Club for the first time through Pandora ~~~~~~ i typed in "Turtle Island String Quartet" as the artist that pulled them up.

Now I just gotta plug my 'puter into my stereo speakers and really enjoy it.
