So I was called "sir" again this morning
:wtf:

Okay, admittedly a Safeway uniform is not the best for showing off one's feminine charms. And I do heave liquor boxes all day. But I have hair down to my ass, said ass is not masculine in nature, I wear women's glasses and my chest is NOT flat. :nuke:

This has happened often enough that I'm starting to get a complex and I swear I'm going to kick the shit out of the next asshole who calls me "sir" just to prove once and for all that I AM a lady! :grr:

:P

3. I accidently called a lady sir the other day on the phone
Not once.. several times during the conversation. I was at work taking information about a lost dog.

At the end of the conversation...

"yes sir! You are correct. Can I get your name and number so I can contact you if I find out anything?"

"Edith. LastName....."

I felt about as tall as my name..

:hi:

5. I'd give a pass for an over-the-phone mistake
I've done it myself.

I'd give a pass when I'm wearing my long trench coat and felt fedora - a casual glance would suggest I'm a guy in that outfit.

But when I'm just doing my thing at work, I don't THINK I look like a guy!

All I ask is just a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T! x(

8. Must respect the booty
Well, that doesn't always work either :D

Last halloween I was giving this girl in a miniskirt a good lookover from the rear. Thinking "yum" nice legs and everything... well, she turned and busted me getting an eyeful.

It was a dude dressed up as a chick for Halloween. He seemed a little upset when I just grinned at him

:hi:

4. People are idiots
You don't look like a man at all. Next time they say that, maybe you should suggest they go to the optometrist!

6. I've lost count of the number of times I've been "ma'am"ed at work.
Despite the fact that I have a gorram beard.

I think it has more to do with expectations than anything else. I work at an arts and crafts store, they expect the employees to be women. The fact that I have longer and prettier hair than most of my coworkers probably doesn't help. And to be fair about the beard thing, it usually happens when they're behind me. Still, the fact that I'm 5'10 and have shoulders broader than most men who are over 6'2 doesn't seem to catch their attention. :wtf:

10. I've never understood the whole "sir" and "ma'am" thing, anyway.
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 11:49 AM by Kutjara
It's like everyone is in the Army.

Having spent most of my life in the UK, where the only time anyone uses that construction is when speaking to a knight or the Queen, it sounds very strange and old-fashioned to my ears. It also invites embarrassing gender confusion, which is reason enough to drop it.

11. I just tell them "Don't call me sir, my parents were married"
since by definition all officers were bastards.
