When I first was being trained in my current career in semiconductor layout, my mentor gave me one piece of advice: never get attached to my work, as there will always be changes required by new requirements driven by Marketing, or by new simulation results coming in from Design Engineering.

So every time that happens, the chorus runs through my head.

I build databases, and script edits to check the data for consistency and unexpected entries, etc. I only actually code as maybe 30-40% of my time, but my entire day is spent in front of a computer interacting with MSOffice and DB software...
