who is your favorite Televangelist?
i always enjoy sunday mornings, surfing through all the televangelists and live broadcasts of church services. the churches are so huge!, and the televangelists have such great hair! notice how they all have to have a very bold, biblical coiffe? no one has finer hair than televangelists...except clint eastwood. he has great hair.

i love the crystal cathedral with robert schuller. that guy is really poltergeist creepy, and i hear a first class jerk in real life.

and ya gotta love benny hinn, my mom's fave. saw a recent expose of him, what a snake that guy is. he claims to heal the infirmed, touches them and they fall flat and are healed. he once took a little old lady's last 5 dollars as a contribution and bragged about it. her last 5 bucks and she gave it to me.

and the female version, joyce meyers. what a bull! she storms up and down the stage like general patton and cracks jokes and dresses like a hostess from hell. she is so severe...i have fantasies about her making me do things i don't want to do and touching me in inappropriate ways. hubba hubba!

oh and robert tillotsen, who could leave him out? he's one of the most blatant about asking for money. give and you shall receive is his number one message from the good book. if you send him money, he will pray for you and soon, you will be blessed back with great wealth. he's been getting away with this hoax for decades. so many sad people out there who are really in pain and who really think he is righteous and serious.

any others that strike you as entertaining?

8. W.V. Grant or Gene Scott
Edited on Sun Aug-10-03 09:02 AM by patsified
I only am able to catch Gene when I'm down in Texas, but that man is certifiable. He's mesmerizing. His dry-erase boards are covered in scribbles. I remember one night he sat and smoked his cigars and made his quartet sing this one song over and over and over again and said they'd continue singing it until X amount of dollars had been raised via telephone calls. I don't know whether Gene is a genius or if he's insane, but he's a blast to watch.

I never watched W.V., but my dh and I used to listen to him all the time on the radio and laugh our asses off. One night his mom was giving us samples of her songs from her latest LP.

Also, does Dolly Harrell still preach down there out of Palatka, Florida? She was utterly, utterly priceless to watch. We'd actually get our agnostic butts out of bed every Sunday morning just to watch her. At our home, we particularly enjoy the speaking in tongues from Dolly and also from Bob Tilton.

Another fun one to listen to on the radio was Captain Paul on the "Ordinary People's Program" in Ft. Worth, TX in the early 1980s.

For a non-religious household, we've got a list of our favorites a mile long, LOL!

27. Gene Scott is in a class by himself
He's the most interesting to watch, simply because he's unique/most eccentric amongst the rest of the televangelist crowd.

Whether sitting around smoking cigars, scribbling on his whiteboard about how the length of the Great Chamber in the Great Pyramid of Giza correlates to the crucifixion, or talking about his horses or some other off-the-wall topic, he's quite an unusual character. He actually seems to be someone I'd be interested in meeting, as opposed to the other repellent types.

42. I love his money scheme
Just send me 10% of your money in faith. Your faith is as important as the gift so you shouldn't question how the money is spent. Just send the money and trust me to do 'god's work'!

I swear that was the most original pitch I had ever heard in my life! That guy was a riot.

9. I LUV Joyce Meyers! "hostess from hell"--lol! (jack van impe too)
I tune in just to see what she's wearing (granted, it will almost always be with those clear high heels).

Did you ever see her gigantically tall husband? He TOWERS over her---she must be tiny in real life! Maybe 5 feet, and he's 6'5" or so.

Then my friend said Joyce was molested when she was little, and it creeped me out to think that she married someone who had the same proportional relationship as molester/child.

Anyway, I do like to watch her.

As for the Van Impes, Jack and his lovely wife host a show that looks like a news show but it's all about how current news is fulfilling revelation. Every show is a thrill ride about how the end of the world is coming nearer, and how the NWO is encroaching on things (ok, so I sort of believe THAT part).

10. Jack & Rexella van Impe are a hoot.
Have you ever seen her singing? It's not enough that she reminds me off Nancy Reagan with that huge head and tiny body, but when she sings in front of fake scenary in an overly dramatic tone, I'm laughing for days.

11. Jesse DuPlantis
Runner up: TD Jakes

And quite a few others. The sheer entertainment value is high on some of these men.

Some, like these two dudes, even have something to say that I agree with now and then. Jesse's a pretty funny dude, and he rails a lot against church and even some of his fellow televangelists.

For the record, I've no religious affiliation and, indeed, am turned off by the fundamentalist stuff.

Makes Tammy Faye look tasteful (almost), and certainly intelligent....

And her husband is a charisma-challenged doofus. What good's a fundamentalist preacher who's lacking any hint of charisma or style? That's all they've got going for them after all.

But one really late night my brother and cousin were watching a televangelist who made a "blind person see" and a "crippled woman walk". You could call the 800 number to get a free (no i'm not kidding) packet of what they call "miracle water". My brother called up and we still haven't gotten our miracle water yet! Anyway that guy was the best televangelist... :D

25. If you really want revenge on someone
write these shows and ask for more information and mention you are considering making a significant donation. Sign the letter (typed would keep you from forgery) with their address and phone number. They will be inundated with phone calls and mail and their name will be sold to others to boot. I did this to one guy years ago with Ernest Angley. He was offering "blessed cloths". I requested one for (by) this guy and he about never got rid of them.

He always had a COOKIN' band! He was about the only televangelist to have an endorsement deal with an instrument company, Kramer Guitars. And the boy could play that piano!

Once the sermon started, it was always entertaining. He'd start out in suit and tie, get warmed up, loosen the tie, get a little warmer, take off the jacket, then unbutton the shirt about two buttons down and the ladies in the front row would be SWOONING!

Can I get an "Amen?"!!!!!!

would be the only thing on. I hate televangelists, but didn't mind him, or Tammy Faye. They seemed, unlike the others, to be nice people. I would keep them on, just for company, while I finished the work I had brought home. Shows what I know.

However, despite what we know now about them, I contend that they are better than the hatemongering Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons that are continuing to infect the airwaves.:grr:
