The Sam Adams/Fried Fish Experiment |
|
The Sam Adams was good--the batter was excellent, seriously.
But we really aren't going to try deep-frying tilapia again. It turned out kinda...mushy. Blech. Better to just stick with our tried-and-true cod of the past, I think.
We still have four tilapia fillets left from the bag of frozen ones we'd bought--what's a better way to prepare them?

1. Get thee down to Cooking and Baking! |

We have all the answers down there. Well, except for me, as I've never cooked fish.
Glad the batter worked out though! :bounce:

2. I'm intimidated by C&B |
|
Everybody there knows all sorts of fancy stuff, and I really don't.
I'm always afraid of asking something that will turn out to be embarrassingly stupid.

We welcome any and all people in C&B! We judge none! And there really are no stupid questions when it comes to cooking. We're all somewhere on the learning curve down there, trust me.
 I mean it, you are most welcome in C&B.

10. I do this one too. It's awesome. |
|
This recipe is pretty close to how I do it (sometimes I play around with the seasonings and add fresh herbs): http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Broiled-Tilapia-Parmesan/Detail.aspx

5. Over in C & B people are nice to n00bs. |
|
The only really sparring is among the established cooks and even then it's usually good natured.
I find tilapia to be too mushy for most usages so I'm no help. :hi:

6. Have we ever had a *real* flamewar in C&B? I don't think so... |

Y'know, the kind with deleted messages and stuff. I did manage to get a thread locked in there though. :bounce:

8. If there was it was long before I started playing there. |

AZDem once had a thread that ended up with some DUzys but that's about the biggest excitement that I can recall.

7. Do you have a grill? Just rub them with oil and whatever seafood seasoning you find. |
|
Put some foil over the grill for in case the fish falls apart. Several minutes (less than ten) ought to be okay if the tilapia filets are not too thick. Simple and good.
If you have one of those grill doohickeys to hold fish you don't need the foil.

9. Take a piece of tinfoil. |
|
Insert piece of thawed (obviously) tilapia.
Add a pat of butter or a little olive oil, some garlic, and a slice of citrus fruit (or some lemon juice).
Wrap up the packets and bake them at 350 for about 15-20 minutes (until it flakes with a fork), depending on thickness.

12. Honestly, I find the microwave to be the best way to cook tilapia. |
|
Just a little seasoning of your choice (I prefer Cavender's Greek Seasoning), and about 2 minutes in the microwave. It's nothing fancy, but it makes for a good, quick meal.
