Poll question: Which would you rather attend: the Super Bowl or Obama's inauguration? |
|
This poll is on my local paper's web site. I'm replicating it here to see how the results compare.

1. Super Bowl for these reasons: |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-16-09 09:20 PM by Bertha Venation
1. I am guaranteed of a chair to sit in.
2. I don't have to get there at 0-dark-thirty to get as close as I can to the actual event
3. I know I won't miss anything as long as I'm there by a certain time
4. It's over at a certain time
5. Although it won't be easy to get out, I know that I can get back to mass transit and find a train that I can get onto, or that I can get back to my car
6. 75% of the roads leading to the event won't be closed
7. Security will be reasonable and not over-the-top
8. Security won't be run by the testosterone-poisoned Secret Service
9. I won't have to worry about there being one port-a-potty for every six thousand people
10. I won't have to look at GWB
11. I'll have access to food
12. I won't have to stand, crushed in among 1 1/2 million of my closest friends
I'm sure there are more - those are just off the top of my head.

As cool as it would be to see either event live its just something about being in a crowd that big just makes me not want to go.

Now, if you'd asked about the Series, then I might've had to think for a second or two.

12. I could totally go to the inauguration if I wanted to. Which, NO WAY. |
|
I'm about an hour south of DC right now. I could go up if I wanted. And there is no way on god's green earth I'm getting anywhere near it. The traffic, the parking, the millions upon millions of people, the cold, the cops hassling everyone, the fact that you won't get within 5 miles of it...fuck that.
I'd love to go to the Super Bowl.

16. Obama's Inauguration. |
|
The first African-American being inaugurated as President of the United States happens only once.
The Super Bowl happens once a year.

I'd still probably take the Super Bowl even if they didn't. It's going to be a nightmare down there in DC next week. If I were guaranteed a seat with a view of the Inaugural action I might consider it.

25. Super Bowl. It's in Tampa this year so I could get laid. |
|
And no offense to the president elect, but I have my priorities and I do not apologize for them.
And in any case, I'm from California and I do not do cold weather. I would not stand around in the snow for hours if Jesus himself were descending from heaven to open for the Beatles.
