Just Wish My Mother had lived to share this day with me. |

She like me was a former Republican who saw the light and converted into a Democrat during the awful Reagan administration. She also couldn't stand either of the Bushies. She was so upset because she couldn't vote for Obama on election day. She was in a nursing home for rehabilitation and felt too weak that day. She called me though first thing the day after and asked me if I was celebrating, and I said you know I am, I danced and sang, and shouted.
Then unfortunately she really took a turn for the worse. She was supposed to come home, but the infection she had in her shoulder, reactivated her leukemia that had been in remission for fifteen years, and she died on November 30.
A few days prior to her death she was wavering between moments consciousness, reality, and hallucinations. When the Doctors had asked her who was President she said Obama. Then at one point she looked up at me and asked is that stupid Bush out of office yet, and I said no Mom, unfortunately he's still there. She said "damn."
I so wish she had lived to see Obama sworn in and Bush flying far away. That would have made her smile.
That's the only sad point of the day for me, is that she isn't with me to celebrate.
