Houseguests
That old expression is true, about houseguests being like fish -- they both begin to stink after three days. Thankfully, the last of our inaugural houseguests departed this morning. They camped at our house while we were downtown at the festivities, but we've still shared space for about four of the last seven days. Enough. The liquor cabinet is bare, every towel in the house needs to be laundered, and there is an unidentified stain on the carpet in the great room.

On the other hand, I have a lovely basket of assorted soaps and lotions to show for my trouble. (Hint to future houseguests: liquor/wine/gift certificate from Giant Foods. Those are good hostess gifts.)

Do I sound disgruntled? I shall try to become....gruntled. I expect no response to this. I just wanted to vent.

2. Amen
Especially houseguests who are clueless and refuse to pitch in (or even offer to help).

Glad you got your house and life back.

5. It was a mix
We had three adults(one group) and then also a group of college-age kids (a friend's daughter and three of her friends). The kids were great. Very helpful, loaded the dishwasher, tied up the trash and put it out this morning. The adults (with one exception) pretty much sat around and expected to be waited on.

But yes, it is good to have my house back. And the cleaners come tomorrow, so it will be a clean house, too.

4. Crowded
I'm going to end up sounding really whine-y, but it can't be avoided. We were dropped off in a car, so we were spared the REALLY long trek from the Metro that a lot of people had to go through. Still, it was a hike from where we were dropped off. We stood in line a long time to get in, and then once inside, you stand and stand and stand (there's no place to sit down.) The food sucks, and is minimal ($150 for this???) and the wait to get a drink isn't worth it. We were at the Mid-Atlantic one, so it was nearly 11:30 before the Prez and Michelle arrived (and stayed for all of about five minutes.) By that time, people had been milling and small-talking for a long time. Wyclef Jean was cool -- that was good music, but the crowd didn't really appreciate it. I saw J-Lo from about twenty feet away, and must say that she really is quite beautiful. By the time the President arrived, my feet were killing me. Some women had even resorted to sitting down on the floor, ball-gown and everything. Feet in heels will only take so much.

I was about 100 feet away from the First Couple, but even that was pretty cool. And no, I didn't like her dress. I think it put 20 lbs. on her, and she clearly didn't feel comfortable with the train. Kept fussing with it and worrying that it was in her or Barack's way. Nice color, though.

We left literally five minutes after they left. I will not wear stupid shoes again for a very long time, unless threatened with death.

How was YOUR experience? I couldn't handle the cold or the crowd, so watched the festivities on TV. Part of me wished I were there, though -- just to be part of it all.

(And what's with the name change? I don't like all this change. It's discombobulating.) ;)

6. Thats neat that you got to actually SEE the First Couple.
The best I could do was the occasional glimpse through the crowd on the jumbotron. I got there early so got an okay spot on the mall. But it was pretty neat being in the crowd and seeing and feeling the excitement of everyone. I will say again that it was by FAR the best behaved large crowd I have EVER seen.
I was able to hear the speech pretty well and that was inspiring!
As for the name change...check your PM...

8. That's what I'm doing wrong
We need a CABINET. With a lock.

I suppose it's our fault, after all. ;0

10. Fortunately we knew most of our guests beforehand and things got better each day
We had friends from back home come and stay with us. We ended up reenacting our collective college days. We stayed up late, played music, drank beer, shared some spliffs, talked, laughed and had a great time. I wished they could've stayed longer. I really miss those guys. Most of all I am going to miss evlbstrd's sausage gravy and biscuits. Oh man! I'd be his friend just for his homemade gravy. He's a great cook.

Monday night we all went to the Hawk 'n' Dove and got to hang with Skinner, EarlG, LynneSin, TZ (formerly turtlensue), HissySpit and others. Tuesday, four of our visitors made it to the Mall while I recuperated with my arthritic body in a warm tub, lotsa pills and some of evl's homebrew. The rest of the evenings we spent on our laptops around the dining room table or upstairs sitting cross-legged on the bed talking about life.
