What food do you sneak into the movie theater?
I'm into toasted pecans, almonds and walnuts. Tastes so much better than stale popcorn and fake butter. So much cheaper too.

What are your favorites?

1. There's an 8-plex in a shopping center here
that's right next to a 99-cent store.

One time I went there with a few other people. We just raided the 99-cent store beforehand. Every kind of candy imaginable. Then we stuffed it in our pockets and strode into the movie.

water. I don't drink soda, so I just put a bottle of water in my purse.

29. A beverage is a must
Not a movie snacker, but hydration is a must--and I'm sorry, but I'm not going to spend $5 on some crappy high-fructose corn syrup monstrosity or a $4 bottle of Dasani, so yep, I'm going in with reinforcements.

FYI, a good choice is NOT a mango Kombucha. By the time you jostle it around in your purse, at least half is going to come spewing out when you try to open it. For everyone who was grossed out by that sticky patch in the middle of rows 5-1 at the Hollywood 16, I apologize heartily.

SO much cheaper than the theaters. Also, I just bring in my own water bottles.

10. I sneak in a Mountain Dew because most theaters
tend not to carry Pepsi products in this area. If they do carry Mountain Dew then I buy it there to support the cause, you know. I've not been one to eat at the theater so I don't sneak in anything edible. The Dew is more important to me.

11. The theater in my neighborhood, Ken Cinema, used to let people bring their own food in.
It's on Adams Avenue in San Diego, and they used to have a policy of letting bring their own food in. They offer popcorn and drinks, but that's it. I've seen people bring entire pizzas in and share them with their friends. It used to be one of those repertory theaters that used to show old films and art films, changing to a different film every day, but now shows mostly new art films/offbeat films for a week at a time. They also have midnight movies, for years the Rocky Horror Picture Show, with people in costumes, but also other cult films. For some reason they are showing Raiders of the Lost Ark at midnight tonight. They have had Spam-throwing contests before Monty Python films, and other kooky events related to the film in question. They sometimes have the director on hand if it's the San Diego premiere of some new art film. It's been a cool place to watch movies with a freewheeling atmosphere for about 30 years, though it has been there for about 50 years. I don't know if they still allow you to bring in your own food though.

So i don't disturb my fellow viewers.

However, if they are disturbing me with their cellphone use, I could use some cellphone "drops" to hit them with :P

15. What movie theater?
The prudes closed out movie theaters down because one of them played Showgirls back in the 90s. They said they were indecent and therefore closed them down.

I watch movies online now. I take whatever I want into the Jama cave. :P

19. I miss the place i used to go to in Charlotte in the 80's/90's... a theater with a full menu
The place called the "Cinema & Drafthouse". They not only served soft drinks and popcorn, but beer, wine, pizza, burgers, wings, etc... The place was set up like a cafe, with upholstered swivel chairs and tables. And they had waitstaff that came around and took orders before the film started, and the food never took longer than maybe 20 minutes to get to the table.

The movies were second-run titles, but always just out of the first-run theaters. They also hosted the midnight Rocky Horror screenings when The Capri down the street finally closed. That wasn't as much fun, because it meant we no longer had to sneak in our adult beverages. *L*

I can think I'm eating something nutritional while enjoying a snack. This is especially true when going to a late afternoon movie, which means it won't be over until long after I'm ready to eat dinner.

23. M&M's (if I leave the house in time to stop at the store)
Edited on Sat Jan-24-09 11:06 PM by rainbow4321
My daughter works at the movie theater  ... when she is behind the concession stand and she sees me at one of her co-worker's registers ordering only a drink she gives me a knowing/faux "how dare you" look.

There's a convenience store right in front of the theater and more then once the cashier there has grinned and said "going to the movies?". Guess I am not the only one who stops there to buy the cheaper candy on the way to the theater!

28. YOU ARE ALL TERRIBLE HUMAN BEINGS
IT IS WRONG TO SNEAK FOOD INTO THE THEATER. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I realize that this is just my pet peeve, and that to most people -- normal people who don't belong on serious psychiatric medication -- sneaking shit into the theater is perfectly normal. But just because it's normal doesn't make it right. It's like you've all found a way to cheat and steal simultaneously, AND be proud of it.

Unless you're sneaking in booze. There are exceptions to every rule, after all. ;)

36. Why is it wrong?
Is it wrong to force passengers to buy food/beverages at airline prices rather than allow passengers to bring their own?

as a kid the family going to the drive-in in the old ford station wagon, we brought our own popcorn and (orange!) koolaid.

Now, I go so rarely buying popcorn and soda is part of the treat/whole experience - have to do it.

Ususally just one sandwich unless the movie is over two hours long, in which case I'll play it safe with a second sandwich.
