I'm watching Conan the Barbarian - seriously, best soundtrack ever.
Fucking hell, seriously, in terms of matching music to scene action, and fitting music to the genre - as well as being music that's just plain goddamn fine to listen to on its own - this is the balls out most perfect best soundtrack ever.

Anyone who disagrees that this is a most excellent soundtrack is an artless, clueless, miserable and exceedingly tedious pile of shit.

5. You must really love The Nutcracker Suite.
Edited on Tue Jan-27-09 11:54 PM by amitten
Tchaikovsky was directed by the choreographer to write music for ALREADY EXISTING choreography. This is the reverse of how it's usually done.

So if the dancers did 3 jumps and then a run and so on, he had to write music that mirrored that exactly, and also capture the essence of the dance ("snow" or "flowers", etc.) and ALSO string it all together into one cohesive beautiful piece of music. All directed not by his own musical creativity, but by the demands of the choreographer, guiding him literally step by step. The ballet contains thousands of steps.

Top that, Hollywood.

6. I haven't seen it in a very long time.
Didn't it have a Tina Turner song? Maybe that was something else.

9. No. Tina sang a song in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
Conan's soundtrack doesn't have any shitty rock music interruptions.

8. Poledouris studied film score composition with Miklos Rozsa
and he learned well.

Maybe not the best score ever (a couple of Hermann's scores probably nose it out), but it sure is in the top ten, maybe top five.

15. It had to be to make up for the lack of decent, understandable dialogue.
The audience needs something to listen to outside of clashing swords, screaming and Arnold's manner of speech.
