I want to lay on the couch and watch TV, maybe go to sleep.

He digs and scratches the hell out of the couch, till my pillows and blankets are strewn all over. Like, he has to waste the whole damned room to get comfy. Then he lays down and snoozes.

I think he's just a little poop.

What do you think?

1. Yep, that's nesting....
When they make circles first, I call it :checking for snakes".

When they mess up rags and pillows, or laundry left lying around, I call it "making the bed" but "nesting" sounds right!

:hi:

2. Yep, he goes into circles.

And scratches everything in sight.

He destroys everything in his way. Then plops down for his snooze.

I complain, but I think it's funny, LOL!

Edit to add: :hi:

4. Is that you? You're a handsome dude!
I'll take the pooch too.

Mine is about 20 pounds.

I put the couch and blankets back together. He is currently hiding under a blanket.

He thinks I don' know that. :eyes:

5. Aw shucks...That was a happy day for me...
My mom was taking the picture, first she had it facing herself, then she couldn't hold it still because she shakes so much.

These critters are so funny, Ginny acts like a cat, but burrows like a gopher but not in dirt.

Sleeps in the bed under all the bedding down by my legs, I don't know how she breaths.

6. How do they breathe under all that?
Oh well, keeps me warm.

Do you do that creeping into the bed as to not disturb the pets?

I do.

Cripes, I have to crawl into the top of the bed and make sure I don't disturb any of them while pushing myself down into bed.

I swear, sometimes its just easier to sleep on the couch. And then they still end up on top of me!

8. Terriers do seem to have that "digging" instinct ingrained in them.
My friend has a terrier mutt, maybe a little bigger than yours, who scratches at people relentlessly when he's excited. Like to the the point that you have to block sensitive areas.

He does not go for "sensitive" parts though. I'd smack him if he did that.

11. not to worry. He's never been smacked.
Some of his habits, "scratching", "nesting" used to drive my ex nuts.

I was like, he's a dog??? That's what dogs do???? What the hell??

He never did that before she got here, and has not done it since I kicked her out.

It took years to keep it to a minimum but every once in a while, well, I get excited.

It was a real problem at business meetings and at work! :silly:

17. Pooka, our Pom mix, grabs the blankets with his mouth to arrange
them to his liking. I've seen the circling and scratching, but never that.

The ultimate triumph of instinct over reality: watching a dog circle and scratch on a hardwood floor before lying down.

20. The beagle does that. Works and works to make her blanket just right
before lying down. She has a Scooby-doo kids' sleeping bag that I bought at a resale shop that's her favorite blanket. She'll actually drag it from room to room to make a nest in just the right spot. I'm thinking of getting her another one, to save some wear and tear on the blanket...and her.

I gave up on trying to keep it folded. He tears it open cause that's HIS bed.

24. This is why I buy beagle blankets at the resale shops.
They're not gonna last long enough to justify much of an expenditure.

26. I thin koa pile of cheap blankets or old comforters make the best dog beds.
Just toss them in the washer when they get wiffy.

I've got a big plush bed for my dog now...His arthritis bugs him, and he seems to appreciate the poly-fiber fill these days. :)

30. some days I am reduced to begging for my own couch
with plaintive looks. It's amazing just how much of a nine foot couch one cat can occupy with strategic positioning and stretching.

32. god, I do the same thing
When the cat is lying next to me (on the outside) I do what is for me an exceptionally acrobatic slither exit so as not to disturb him, and just as I get the second foot onto the ground and start moving to the upright position, the damn cat, now sole and undisturbed possessor of the entire couch, just gets up and jumps off and saunters insouciantly off.

:grr: but :loveya: anyway

33. I once had all 3 pets on the bed and tried to crawl in through near the headboard.
That wasn't easy!

And then to adjust arms, legs, and body to where each one was camped.

Sometimes I don't see any of them anywhere. I am certain that is when they are having private meetings to plot this shit against me.
