There are a multitude of ways to do it. Off buttons and channel changing are popular.

American Idol got removed from my television before it even started!

The problem is, Tuesdays from 8-9 there's nothing !%#$#$ ever on. Ever. So I'm inevitably sucked into it on an annual basis.

The only AI contestant I actually rooted for was Taylor Hicks. He at least was interesting and somewhat talented. And you saw how many records it sold him.
